Lets check the facts shall we

1. The setting is super boring and makes me depressed automatically
2. Whenever theyre outside they are clearly in sunny Southern California and not Scranton, Ohio or whatever so bad immersion imo
3. Steve Carells character is mildly entertaining but everyone else is mediocre and mostly unremarkable

What am I missing that makes people obsess over this show

I don't find Steve Carrel or Will Ferrel funny at all. They both do the same type of comedy where they over exaggerate usually by screaming. The other approach to comedy they have is staring with a serious straight face and talking calmly while saying something stupid so that it looks like they really meant it all while breathing heavily and pretending they know about a subject they have no idea about.

Seasons 2 through 5 are excellent, but 6 through 9 range from good to downright awful with most of season 9 being pretty much unwatchable to me. I love it when it's at its best but those later seasons really tarnish my overall opinion of the show and are the main reason why I don't remember it very fondly.

Ive always been a huge fan, especially when it was on air. But the cult like following it got in recent years always baffled me. It seems like the show is more popular now than it ever was. And were nearing a decade since the last episode aired.

I hate the type of humor it inspired, mostly relegated to 30 sec commercials.

No it doesn't. Dwight picks up a lot of slack and there are several memorable plotlines and jokes after Steve leaves. Robert California is incredible.

It having cringe humor set pace for the future >_>. How can you dock points for being ahead of it's time? Even if you specifically don't like cringe humor, it's just lacking awareness to not see that it's insanely popular now.

I loved it for like four seasons and then something clicked with me and I just stopped watching it entirely. I can't really explain it but I guess like someone said it seemed played out.

i don't dislike cringe humor. it can be good in appropriate doses. like the dinner party episode. but then you have episodes like Scott's Tots, or the one where Michael breaks up with Pam's mom on her birthday because he realizes how old she is. those were just too much.

Ah. I respect you having a limit. Mine is different tho, cause I like those episodes and scenes.

Honestly, I been watching Curb, and I just got to the 5th season. Larry is getting to be a bit much for me in this season. He sticks his neck out way further than he had previously. I still enjoy it but my body goes numb when watching him in certain situations lol. Weed could of played into it.

It is a good show, but typically was the third best show on NBCs Comedy Night Done Right. 30 Rock was better through its run, Parks and Rec after season 2 stomps it, Community seasons 1-3 crushes it, My Name is Earl minus the Billie episodes destroy it.

It was good up until Jim and Pam's wedding. That whole event just marked a downturn in the quality of the show for me for some reason. I also hated Andy. Just found him grating and not funny.

But before that? A very good show. Also like the British version a lot, but not the ending christmas special that ties a bow around it and redeems David Brent a bit.
