FF15. Its world was literally generic western locals with fantasy monsters inserted in. At least 13s world was creative and a site to behold even if you couldnt explore it.

I'd rather observe a gorgeous and original location from afar then explore a bland and unoriginal one first hand.

Definitely XIII. I didn't play XIII-2 or Lightning Returns (which seemed interesting actually) - other than the demo - so I can't comment on them.

FF2. Totally unmemorable and you can randomly end up dead because there's no indication that you're going from a level appropriate area to an area with way too powerful enemies.

13's world was actually varied, colorful, and somewhat interesting. The story was pretty bad after XIII, but the world itself was pretty great.

12, on the other hand... Lots of locales that look the same, empty map, upon empty map. Let's not forget that awful story, mostly awful dungeons, etc.

there are more sidequests to the game beyond the hunts, but even if that is the direction you're going the hunts in 12 are accompanied with lore and are usually directly related to the people issuing them adding actual worldbuilding to it

as opposed to 13 and 15 where you just get the hunt and go kill shit

I would probably agree if it weren't for the music system. I loved having such an epic historical soundtrack to listen to while playing. Like half the map was empty desert though.

I like 13's SETTING more than any other in the series, but boy do I hate how they "utilized" it. Also like 8's setting.

My vote is XV.

Toss up between 2 and 8. 2 is just super poorly laid out with random areas having higher level monsters that will wreck you with no warning because their attempt to make the world fairly connected just meant it's a big mess where you don't know where you're going beyond the most basic level unless you look it up. 8 is functional but holy shit is it boring, there's just flat out nothing on the vast majority of the map. No idea why they even have some of these big ass continents if they're not going to put shit there.

I only played the ds one. A lot of the ideas were interesting but in execution, being minied or toaded was garbage. I did really like the transition from the starting area to the main continent.

13 has a futuristic makeshift planet. It's a technological haven that's floating above the actual world the people live on. The people who live in Cocoon look down on the "indigenous" folk that live on Pulse literally and metaphorically. It's a cool setting and they make Pulse n Cocoon look super different

I started with FF X-2 and I loved it. Everything. I still get huge amounts of nostalgia for it, and it catapulted me into the series.
Looking back I can recognize that it's gameplay is great, but story is incredibly weak. It made me appreciate the series more.
