Watch any and all Twin Peaks material. You're at the part where the show gets alarmingly bad, but it's still always going to be a fun time to watch. Watch the movie before you get to The Return

Most of the rest of season 2 is some of the worst television I've ever forced myself to sit through. However Fire Walk With Me and The Return are perfection and are worth suffering a little for.

The rest of season 2 of Twin Peaks is much weaker than the earlier bits, but I always found it to have a certain trashy charm to it. It becomes a cheesy mystery soap opera, if you can imagine such a thing, and if junky television doesn't offend you it's definitely worth seeing. And of course, the final episode is perhaps the best episode in the entire original series, so if you don't have an affinity for the trashy stuff that comes before it, it's maddening because it does reference the rest of the season and concludes a lot of the plot stuff that was set up earlier.

For my money, the Twin Peaks film (which is a prequel) is a milestone in David Lynch's work. Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, and Inland Empire are greatly indebted to that film, and it's more at peace with them than it is with the original show or Lynch's other earlier work. But it does understandably clash with the original show in certain aesthetic ways. Don't think of it as a 2 hour long episode of Twin Peaks, but as a film That is part of the larger Twin Peaks media universe.

The Return is utterly astounding, and you should definitely watch it. There isn't anything else quite like it on television.

Worse, it was about halfway through the 2nd season.

Ratings dropped so significantly after the episode, that it was cancelled despite being a top ratings show from the start.

I still find most of Season 2 charming. The James arc is irredeemable though.

You can safely skip to the last two episodes of S2. David Lynch left after the reveal cause he never wanted to reveal who killed her to begin with. He came back to do the last episode, which was great. But yeah, the rest of S2 is absolutely DREADFUL and imo, not charming at all. Just grating and cringeworthy.

I liked the Nadine (she's the one who thought she was a teen again right?) parts because how fucking weird and ridiculous it was

The studio demanded it and it pissed him off. He despised the scene where they explain everything, it's so anti-thetical to how he makes stories.

There's a lot of studio interference in Twin Peaks behined the scenes.

James was always one of the worst parts of the show, he was just more acceptable when he was interacting with the main plot in a way that wasn't completely pointless like his leaving town side story.

Still, when my best friend & I used to watch this show over & over, we'd always MST3K the hell out of that part of season 2.

James was bad, but Nadine's storyline was absolute garbage. I think I hated it more because I quite liked Nadine while James was kind of meh to begin with.
