Final Fantasy IX has been great so far. I'm not done with it yet. The next destination is a place called Oeilvert where magic is supposed to be useless. Think I'm getting closer to the end of the game. I like the world building and art style of the game. Some of the characters are great such as Vivi. I hope to see more of Amarant since he's kind of just there for now.

If I had any complaints, it's that Trance feels like a useless mechanic and battles take forever if you don't use the speed up gameplay feature. Also wish Beatrix was a permanent party member. This isn't a gripe but Kuja has a strange outfit. Are his cheeks exposed beneath that robe he wears? I'm genuinely curious.

Anyways, can I go into X expecting the same level of enjoyment or even better? People constantly say X is one of the best FF and one of the best games ever made. As long as the characters are interesting, the gameplay is fun, the story doesn't implode on itself like VIII, and the music is good, then it should be a good time. Not sure what the devs were thinking when designing the lower portion of Lulu's outfit but it's all good.

Just play it for yourself. Some of my friends have told me X is one of the greatest games they've ever played in their life, and others have said X is one of the worst games they've ever played.

I find the story, characters, setting, and blitzball very not fun. Thats a lot for me to try to look past to have fun.

I bought this game on release, full price and barely played it. I still have that copy and never picked it back up.

The story and characters are handled in a very different way that i feel is a large step down from FFIX, which I consider to be the series' narrative high point. You might like it? Final fantasy has pretty much always dictated where studios take their stuff in terms of the larger part of the JRPG market, so if you were playing other games around that time of the same genre after its release its going to feel very similar. I guarantee at the very least you will see every plot twist coming from a mile away

The battle system seems to be very popular among people. I never thought it was different enough to be worth the sacrifices to other areas of the game. It's a lot faster, which is nice.

I place it very high. Top 3 in the series. I thought the characters and the world are top notch. The battles are easier than in past games, and it is the first FF to do away with the active time battle system since the NES days (not saying thats a good or bad thing - just a major difference in mechanics).

The main mini game, Blitzball, is super polarizing. Some people absolutely love it (myself included), others despise it.

Its also the first FF to feature voice acting, and while it isnt great, it also isnt nearly as bad as some make it out to be, IMO.

Overall, this is the end of the stretch with the best FF games, IMO, as FF4-10 features a bunch of gems. Im not too high on FF5, and FF8 is my least favorite (a polarizing game in its own right), but the rest are amongst my favorite games Ive ever played.

First FF with voice acting and it shows... Also not as 'huge' as FFIX. There are definitely things I liked about IX more than X, but all that said, It's pretty easy to get into. The sphere grid was fun to mess around with, the story was heartfelt, the game was filled with tons of fun things to do, and while the world was smaller in scale, every area rewarded exploration and was memorable.

FFX was the first main series game that didnt have an overworld. The entire game is designed like a dungeon, with winding paths and hallways with little room for deviation. I personally didnt mind that, though some people really hated it.

The gameplay is a lot of fun. You can hot-swap party members at any time, and there tends to be variety in enemy comps, with each enemy being weak to certain weapon/magic types. Its pretty simple, but oddly satisfying. (Pro-tip, look up some help with Khimari builds. He was designed as a jack of all trades character, but by the time his sphere grid opens up hes practically useless unless you know what youre doing. Not that you need to, hes pretty much completely superfluous, but he can be fun if you invest in him.)

Story is another divisive thing. Theres an interesting world and history youre thrown into, but the crux of the story is the development of Tidus and Yuna. If you dont like one or either of those characters, the story is going to be a hard sell.

overall I loved it tho

also, pro tip. If you play it, 100% each cloister of trials when you first get to them. Look up a guide if you have to. Im not going to tell you why, but youll thank me later.

i dont think this can be understated and outside of 12 (which I don't like very much for other reasons) for some reason it's never gone away? A lot of dialogue in X, 13 and 15 sound like they are very direct translations from japanese without much localization to make people sound less like robots for western audiences

I love 6-9 and I was pretty hyped to finally play X like 3 years ago. I was really disappointed. It had some cool parts and great music, but I didn't love it just didn't have that FF or KH magic to it.

I wish I would have played it when I was a kid, but I never did for some reason

anyway, X is a great game. it's 20 years old and it's aged well. Characters, character development, setting, gameplay, story and music are great for an early 2000s game.. it's linear, but there's nothing wrong with that as the story is good.

sphere grid progression is really fun, and boss battles are just right in terms of difficulty. what I really dislike about the game are the mini games though. and they are required to get celestial weapons. I dgaf about 100%ing or 2nd plsythroughs in games anymore. I got other games. took me about 70hrs to beat it. I took my time.

Glad you enjoy IX. Its my favourite. Im playing through X again right now. I think the battle system is the best out of all the FF games and really like the sphere grid.

The story starts off weak but gets better. I think its gonna depends how well you enjoy the dynamic between Tidus and Yuna.
