Probably part of the plan all along. Witcher 2 and 3 had a bunch of free quest updates. And of course the big, not free DLCs.

it was and they had this announce like 4-5 months ago already.

People are just butthurt about the game and try to use anything as an excuse to hate on it.

The DLC was always expected to be free. The DLCs for Witcher 3 were free.

The only extra that cost money were the expansion packs

The big reason was CDPR is the developer. People thought it was gonna be awesome considering how Witcher 3 turned out.

Which it might be, I dunno. Apparently Witcher 3 was about as broken at launch.

You're not owed a narrative you like. Or should all games be delisted and offer full refunds purely because they disappointed someone? Just focus on the game being unplayable on consoles and a buggy mess universally.

They never promised this. Content gets cut and modified throughout development for every game. Taking something out way before a game goes gold is not really a broken promise. This is why games should not be announced years in advance. Because then it builds hype and people will flip out if you ever reverse course on any idea.

You used to not be able to download expansion packs. Like, if you wanted Lords of Destruction you had to go out and buy it.

It pretty much is "these days", but when I say "these days" I mean like the whole past decade.

There never used to be "DLC", it used to just be expansion packs and that was it, usually with substantial amounts of content. Then they started throwing in character skins and bonus weapons and missions and shit as individual purchases and then everyone just started calling everyone DLC.

The expansion packs of old are usually standalone expansions these days. Like Miles Morales, Death of the Outsider and Lost Legacy

But hey they never promised that the game wouldn't crash, so better return those refunds. They never promised your save file wouldn't corrupt if you crafted too much.

It's not a standard feature for first person games. Most games go for one or the other.

Just play a third person game, there's a glut of them.

If you're on PC, i'm sure there will be a mod in the future. You're kinda fucked in regard to that with consoles tho.

I didn't mind the removal of third person when they announced it, but when you actually play the game and notice a glaring lack of any sort of reflections... It makes you wonder wtf they did. Like even looking at a mirror in the game requires the mirror to "turn on" and it doesn't always render your character right. And changing clothes can take longer than the load screens for fast travel.

So in the context of all the other glitches in the game it just seems like yet another thing they totally neglected. Or that doesn't jive with the rest of the game (seriously you have rainy nights where neon lights are hitting realistic asphalt roads and puddles... And your character is basically a vampire).

Side note but related example - items like ashtrays might have cigarette butts in them and look good, then you see a tray with French fries right next to it and it's just jaggy triangular cuts of beige polygons from an early N64 game.

The game is a weird combination of fantastic and really, really, really above par by like a gazillion points.
