I'm kinda surprised that Doom Eternal doesn't show up on some of these lists, based on all the good things that I've heard about it.

Games released earlier in the year tend to have a harder time being remembered by the time GOTY awards roll around. Especially if stuff like Animal Crossing or FFVII Remake hogged the attention.

It's happening to Ori a lot too although it got listed in this case.

It's being slept on for sure. It got swallowed up by Ubisoft's bigger hits like Valhalla and Legion

GI gave Fenix a 9 and Valhalla a 9.25. Both seem pretty generous from the footage I've seen tbh. Half Life Alyx is getting a lot of praise in these lists but that game was relevant for like 2 days and supposedly had a lot of issues/poor gameplay.

Nah Half-Life Alyx was fantastic. It's a shame most people can't play it.

Assassin Creeds are such bloated boring slogs of unfun. How anyone can put that on a top 10 is crazy.

Valhalla's actually pretty good tbh, I don't think it really deserves a slot on the list but it's not a bad game. Coming from someone who has hated AC for the past several years.

I'll be really happy if they surprise us and actually pick Doom.

i played none of these but animal crossing for like a month and the demo of FF7 remake. i do have last of us 2 for awhile and finally installed it on my ps4. gonna start that up soon.

so hades is that good? i knew nothing about it till recently with all the love it gets. i seen a couple quick gameplay scenes of it. doesn't seem like a game that would get so much love just with the graphic style. usually it's all either 1st/3rd person games.

I bought hades Friday and have over 30 hours already. it's amazing, just not worthy of these lists imo

Doom Eternal is mostly a mechanics game. A lot of games "journalists" don't really care for those types of games and usually like story based games better. A shame because it is such a joy to play and get into the rhythm of it.

I think Animal Crossing New Horizon kind of over shadowed Doom Eternal tbh because it's a lot more accessible game(with the timing of Covid and everything). Doom 2016 had a much bigger reception than Doom Eternal which probably also played a big role as well.

But anyways Doom Eternal is my top game of 2020... to bad that doesn't mean much lol.

It is not a bad game, but it is it is the video game version of Oscar bait. The only thing it really does extraordinarily is its accessibility options.

TLOU2, imo, gameplay is an major improvement over the first game. For story, it does the job but I'm in that same camp with most other people that didn't like the direction it went. If you like the first game and the characters, you might get ticked off the wrong way with this game.

Gameplay's fantastic. Story is great. Pacing is a problem. Graphics are aces. Controls are tight. Acting is top notch.

Absolute Game of the Year contender for anyone who went into it without an established bias ahead of time.

End of the day, it's just popular to hate. Toss in anti-SJW nut jobs foaming at the mouth and you get an explosion of vocal hatred towards the game. It's so over the top that you should know something's not right with it.

Ultimately, play the game yourself and form your own opinion. It is a cinematic heavy game with lengthy cutscenes and lots of walking and talking, but there's plenty of meaty combat and stealth in there too. If you liked the first, I'd definitely suggest Part II. I think the first is better, but still love 2.

Maybe a bit, but it still feels like Doom Eternal got a ton of hype and praise when it came out. Most people said it was better than Doom 2016.

Looks like TLOU2 will win the most GOTY awards this year. Not overly surprising. It's a shame the leak happened for it. I wonder how it would have went down if it all came out when people played it.

Gameplay hasn't evolved in any way from the first game. Story is very flawed. The Last of Us Part 2 is maybe a 7/10.

Ah yes, I completely forgot about the jump/dodge button. I also forgot about grabbing around corners, going prone, disarm takedowns, etc. How silly of me.
