so with the steam sale starting on the 22 and with people not knowing what to buy during the last sale, i decided to put together a list of games for your perusal. so heres a hater's dozen games that i have enthuse for but havent seen any for here (unless i missed it. or its on the discord. who knows what goes on in there).

Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight

this is a nice little platformer in the metroid style. nothing much to say about it other than its quite good and the difficulty has a bit of spice to it. nothing too spicy for the caliber of gamers here though im sure. its been run at some GDQs if youre a fan of those and want to see it in action.

Trajes Fatais: Suits of Fate

this probably shouldnt be on the list since it isnt out yet (supposed to be by june though!) but im hype for this and dont see mentioned like anywhere so im signal boosting it. its a brazilian made 2d fighter with the premised that the final boss demon/deity goes to a costume/birthday party and says 'poof now ur ina fite game LOL' (or something to that affect). the partygoers get powers based on the costume theyre wearing and proceed to fite game. characters include hot girl as a half naked succubus, hot boy as a half naked angel, moe girl as a platypus, some guy as a scarecrow which is kinda moe, a ghost pirate, and more! its also gonna ahve rollback so no worries there.

Umineko: Golden Fantasia

i know theres some umineko readers here but did you know it had a fite game? because it does! its a solid fighter featuring some of your favorite characters and rose with 2v2 tag mechanics and some of that umineko music you love. it also has rollback although im not sure how good it is as i dabbled with this before the steam version came out and havent got it yet :/ so be a bit wary. yu can still enjoy this without having read umineko of course also theres technically some spoilers although without context im not sure how bad they are

Them's Fightin' Herds

closing out the 2d fighter block of this listicle is what should have been Fighting Game of the Year. since its made by a western indie team it has all the features that should be standard in fighters that japan hasnt adopted yet because japan. things like an actually good tutorial that explains things like hitboxes, frame data, negative edge, and more, ping/jitter numbers, good rollback, pixel lobbies that put guilty gear strive's to shame, and hats! and its made using the z-engine generously loaned to them by known shitbag mike z so if youre familiar with skullgirls you know kinda how it is. roster is small though which is the biggest downside but if youre into supporting indie devs who make good games then hey no problem!

Glass Masquerade

after all the excitement of fite gaming this is a nice way to chill. its a game wherein you put together some stained glass jigsaw puzzles based on various cultures from around the world. its kinda short though (under 3 hours) but its still a nice little game (and only 1.25$ on sale). i played on ps4 which didnt have the dlc so i cant comment on how much it adds but if youre into this then hey there it s. theres also a sequel which i assume is more of the same but with different themes.

DROD: Deadly Rooms of Death

i originally played a shareware version of drod back in the late 90s and didnt know until recently that it became a kind of thing. i think this is the 'first' of the thing with what i originally played being dlc for this. anyway its a puzzle/strategy game wherein you have to clear each room of enemies in a turn based manner. you have to position yourself and your Big Sword to clear each room of enemies, each of which behaves differently. theres a lot of rooms to clear and also fan rooms for even more dungeoning

Star Renegades

a scifi rpg roguelike with an ffx ish battle system. it incorporates the roguelikeness into its story so ill refrain from maybe spoiling that. the battle system focuses on hitting and delaying enemy turns letting you deal biggerer damage, statuses, and such. one possible issue is that the rpgness means a run might take several hours whereas other roguelikes it may take not hours. also those graphics are kinda nice

World of Horror

a lovecraft/junji ito inspired roguelike/adventure game with rpg elements. pick a character, solve 5 mysteries (which are kinda itoish short stories), save the world from an ancient eldritch god. also level up and handle different encounters along the way. this is still in early access but i think the amount of content in it now justifies the price but i know not everyone is cool with early access

Yume Nikki: Dream Diary

yume nikki is the original free rpg maker version with dream diary being a 3d remake. i suppose they may qualify as walking sims. you play as madotsuki, a shut in who never leaves the house in a pre covid time. instead se sleeps all day and you wander around her dreamscape, which is a labyrinthian, kinda creepy, and a little weird not quite nightmare. the objective is to find all the 'effects' which are sorta powers in the dream and free her from her shutinness. although really youll maybe find half of them and then look up where the rest are. ihavent played the remake yet so no comment on it but the original is there and free

Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion: HD Renovation

closing out the spooky block of the listicle is the Spook herself and her fancy new house. a survival horror/walking sim wherein you must navigate through the 1000 rooms of spooky's house. along the way you get chased by Specimens, which are SCPish monsters some of which are based on classic spooky games like resident evil, silent hill, and the mask of majora. the non hd version is free to play if you want to check it out, and theres some dlc if you want more. the hospital dlc gives backstory and the doll dlc from what i hear is kinda fucked up storyways. and as an aside, please to be nominating spooky for the gamefaqs female villain contest, which is a thing that is assuredly going to happen

Uppers

after some heart pounding spooks comes some heart pounding fighting to close out thelisticle. uppers is a game that was TOO HOT for sony to handle (its a vita game the ps4 port was cancelled for). its a beat em up featuring some ecchi elements and is from the senran kagura director (and has daidouji as a guest character). theres a handful of varying delinquents to play as, many girls numbers to acquire, and many panty slot variations to achieve. mostly though its just a big fun dumb thing to hit buttons with

afraid i cant help with the problem :( . there is an old prototype build that can still be downloaded i think if youd like to try that. the gameplay is totally different now so itd mostly just be for curiositys sakeand funsies

i unfortunately havent played it yet because i dont have a computer what can do much. i have a feeling it wont be as good since the original is something special and i love me some sprites but that doesnt mean dream diary is bad of course. i also saw it suggested that the plot of DD relates to the original's ending which is interesting and slightly confusing

and if the movement speed isnt shit that should increase enjoyment!

DROD: Gunthro and the Epic Blunder is DROD 4. Every version of DROD can play levels from previous games (in fact, GatEB on Steam is running on the DROD 5 engine), and three of the DLC packs contain all the content from DROD 1-3. GatEB is a prequel that was designed to be a good starting point for the series (given what they've learned about how to teach puzzle mechanics since they started).

I bought GatEB and the Classic Trilogy DLC thanks to this topic. Reminds me a bit of Kye, if anyone remembers that thing that always seemed to turn up in early versions of Windows. Only with a plot, and ugly characters.
