It seems a lot of people are upset about the game beyond just the hilariously bad performance and bugs? Where does this stem from? I followed almost nothing about this game pre-launch because I wanted to really just enjoy it for what it is and form an opinion by playing it, and for me it wound up being exactly what I hoped for; Witcher 3, but in a dystopian future. A lot of what Ive been seeing about it sounds like people were expecting it to be either Fallout/Elder Scrolls, or GTA. I like it quite a bit, so far, but Im genuinely curious about where the outrage is coming from.

It was the same thing with Outer Worlds. People had high expectations and had those expectations broken when the game was less than.

The hype set expectations that the game would never surmount to (maybe with more fixes like with No Man's Sky).

Had it released under the radar, and if people didn't follow it (over a 7-year period) as you have, then they would just appreciate it.

It's exactly as that one proverb says: "The anticipation is greater than the reward," or something like that. And people have been eager.

yeah but the enemy ai is fine, and the npcs are mostly just like witcher 3 when not bugged. I dont think its going for the same style of immersion as like a Bethesda game, rather the world is meant to just be the setting for enthralling questlines.

They hid the console versions. For years all the footage they shown for the game was tightly controlled and and done by high end PCs. That is fair for the early hype but they kept hiding console footage close to the release. They knew the game would be near unplayable on base PS4/XB1 and hid that because they knew it might effect sales.

another part was incel gamers demanding the game come out asap via death threats whenever the game was delayed, so they got what they wanted; a game that wasn't finished yet

Enemy AI is trash lol, half the time they don't know how to open doors, sometimes they try to flank you but usually they just come at you one at a time, you can stack up a pile of bodies with a silenced weapon because they want to come investigate... Once you get higher stealth it becomes almost like a Bethesda game where they take a while to spot you... With higher level quick hacking it's even easier to one shot people.

There are just so many ways to cheese the shit out of it. Maybe it's fine if you're just running around with a gun or something but otherwise the AI here is so bad.

Had an encounter last night where I was "in combat" but I stepped outside the building where the enemies were and waited. Not a single one tried to get me and half of them killed themselves somehow.

Some people wanted Witcher 3 in Cyberpunk - they are enjoying the game and not whining constantly on reddit

Other people wanted GTA V real life simulator sex adventure in Cyberpunk, they are too busy whining to enjoy the game

Its a great game with A+ creative aspects (story, characters, art, etc), decent combat, and a forgettable open world... just like Witcher 3 imo

Sucks for last gen consoles though, they get a pass on whining

CDPR shouldn't have announced the game so early. The issue wasnt just that it was taking too long it was announcing release dates and constantly pushing back, giving the impression that they were making sure the game was fully polished at release but it not polished. Not defending whiny brats who send death threats, but they arent the reason the game was released before it was in a decent state.

TBF, with Cyberpunk, CDPR themselves hyped it up massively. Obsidian repeatedly told people to keep expectations in check but people rode the "FUCK BETHESDA" train right into the sky.

Isnt the Witcher 3 basically like a Bethesda game but more story less freedom? I think people just expected them to put out what they promised and not be scummy.

Its nothing at all like a Bethesda game, no; it is more or less exactly like Cyberpunk, but with swords.
