Yes.
And none that have really been worth a damn, that aren't throwbacks I should say, seem to be around. Most modern ones are trash and depressing. Corny normy games and whatnot. I think the last cool game I played that was somewhat modern was INITIAL D, it even had the card reader thing. --- "Whatever the reason you're on Mars, I'm glad you're there, and I wish I was with you." ~Carl Sagan. I love arcades, man. Fucking love 'em. There's just something about sharing a genuinely great arcade game with friends or a SO that can't be replicated on a console.
In my area, regular arcades are an endangered species but "barcades" are thriving (pre-COVID anyway). You basically have the choice between the chains (Dave and Buster's, Main Event) for newer machines and the mom 'n' pop joints for pinball and older games. I tend to prefer the latter, for sure. --- The music was thud-like. The music was... thud-like. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I only went to arcades for the intense person vs person competition. I could easily spend 50 bucks a night if the right people are there. Or 1 dollar and cruise the night collecting wins. (I wasn't the type to play 1 player games of pinball or pacman)
Modern arcades don't have the player base for that any more. (mostly non competitive types. Not for me.) It's all online now, which is better overall. No commute. Almost no waiting, no smoking/smelly/greasy people, no broken buttons or sticks, no blaring audio from all the other games, way cheaper. Only Negative: lag. Good deal. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Yup, was in So Cal when all the big fighting game tournaments used to happen at local arcades that had mini golf and ticket games under the same roof. it was a crazy time, consoles still were not powerful enough to emulate games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and the only way to get good was to spend quarters against people who were better than you.

If you have VR (or even if you don't, it is playable without VR), I recommend looking into New Retro Arcade Neon. It's like stepping back into the 80's and early 90's when arcades were ubiquitous.

Hehe. Ya, we don't really have them close to me, or at least not a Barcade. miss the atmosphere not the pricing. arcades in australia charged $1 and some even $2 per game. imagine that kind of pricing in the 90s.

One of my favorite experiences was Disney Quest. You paid a flat fee for unlimited use of their arcade. My SO and I played through Camelot, Metal Slug, and a bunch of other arcade games from start to end.

I just can't get into the arcade that exist now. The throwback arcades just don't feel the same (infinite credits is the standard, just doesn't feel the same. Plus not enough foot traffic). Barcades are alright if you want to play a racing or light gun game
