Democrats shouldve caved in a long time ago.

So you're fine with a company like Walmart doing absolutely nothing to protect its employees and customers as long as you get money? And then not only is it downright impossible for its employees/customers to sue it for doing so, but Walmart can freely counter-sue them and any lawyers that take up their case simply for trying to sue Walmart?

No, shutting the economy down did. Who shut it down? The goverment. Who are you asking for help now? Oh, right the goverment.

It's like a never ending feedback loop of you people asking the goverment for help, only for them to screw things up again, and then the people asking said goverment for help again becuase of said screw up.
Are you seriously making the argument that we never should have done anything to stem the spread of Covid?

Someone tell me this is a moddable offense.

I said that, because you gotta be pragmatic and understand that was the best you were going to get out of REP leadership.

Another bad take.

The government did not shut down the economy. Even in places where the pandemic isn't taken particularly seriously numbers are down because people's behavior still changed as a result of the pandemic. Therein lies the problem, the economy is screwed either way. The only thing you can control is how many ICU beds get filled and how many graves you need to fill.
Some, but not all, hell just hiw much or little the country even seems to care about the virus at this point is up for debate.

It's stupid to give out cash to every citizen just for the hell of it. Instead, it needs to go toward:

-Keeping small businesses forced to shut down alive until they can properly reopen.

-People who have lost their income through no fault of their own and are about to have their life turned upside down.

Period. Those of us unaffected financially by he virus don't need a free cash handout to go and blow on nonsense like last time. I bought $1,200 worth of food with mine and helped out many people at our local food pantry.

I lost my income because people at my work refused to wear a mask so I quit. That makes me unable to get unemployment because it was "voluntary."

Doing this through the standard unemployment channels is stupid. They are broken even in a non crisis time.

I don't think a careful look at the data would show the recession is due to government policy. It makes sense that "shutdown" or "lockdown" policies have a marginal negative impact on economic activity -- which also might be justified if it helps slow the spread! -- but people have voluntarily withdrawn spending in the in-person sector regardless

lol yeah I mean I don't care that much about the stimulus payment either way. I find the actual content of the bill insufficient on its own for other reasons

This. I quit my job in January, with a gig job lined up for February and then planned to find something in March. oops, the whole fucking world shut down. fuck me, i guess.

and that's all besides the point. literally as few people as we can possibly manage should be working right now (or rather, 8 fucking months ago). a three month lockdown, with the appropriate assistance could have killed this before it killed a quarter million fucking people.

The response to this has been fucking criminal.

Calling it 'bipartisan' when the three people mentioned in the article are Joe Manchin, Mitt Romney, and Susan Collins is only using the word based on its actual, literal definition. This "deal" isn't actually bipartisan in nature or spirit in the slightest, especially with no stimulus cheques for the people included.

Also anyone who still thinks Romney isn't as bad as the rest of them...you need to be slapped.

This might surprise you, but there are Republicans who think that this is too much.

Then those people need to elect better fucking leaders. Or when those leaders refuse to do their job, get in the fucking streets, shut shit down, and demand help. It works in literally every other first world country. When the Government starts fucking over huge chunks of it's population, they get in the streets and fuck shit up.

The difference is that American Government isn't accountable to it's citizens in any way shape or form.
