My parents are watching the kids on a weekly basis anyways. Going over there for Thanksgiving doesn't increase our chances of spreading covid.

tbh, even if there was no covid, they would still find some way to tear you down, saying Thanksgiving was murdering the Indians, and you are a no good son of a bitch for supporting that for celebrating Thanksgiving. It's just all wackjobs.

I think it is all about taking smart educated risk. If you are joining people who are in constant interaction with other households, and traveling to visit family in a method that exposes you to a lot of people. That may not be wise.

But if you and your family quarantined 14 days beforehand, got tested, travel in a way that doesn't expose you to others, you are at way less of a risk.

It is pretty selfish. No reason to hyperbolize it though

nah, its more or less about having the perspective, empathy, and insight to know that holidays are just another day of the year and not worth the risk to people you love.

Last month we admitted a 2 year old with COVID after he had a small birthday party; both grandparents died from ARDS and both obese parents were intubated on ventilators, one proceeding to require ECMO. he had no one to take care of him because his extended family didnt want to catch covid caring for him, so we had to admit him to the hospital and watch him here until his infection cleared and he could be placed with family.

but hey at least he had a birthday party

Everyone keeps saying Oh, I'm just one person, it won't matter. I don't have symptoms and hey, you probably don't and perhaps you won't spread anything. But with how many people think this, how many ARE spreading, or how many don't realise you're spreading it as not yet showing signs? People start seeing others saying they're going to meet up anyway and so more and more do, until people who are dangerous start moving around and then more and more people have it and it spreads more.

My thing was more so insulting people who are trying to do the right thing isn't a sign of a good guy. I have some understanding for those who want to spend time with their family. Cause I'm not only spending mine in a small household because I don't love anybody lol. The dude acts like people don't have breakdowns over not being able to see their family.

Everyone that came to my house is exposed on a regular basis anyways so any increased chance is slight. Just 5 people. My mom my brother his wife his child and myself. 3 of us work at a prison with positive cases.

Most people who have small family gatherings won't come into contact with anyone who has Covid. The percentage of infected people is very low compared to the entire population. I don't know why people keep ignoring this fact and act like EVERYONE is going to get Covid.

That's exactly it.

One person in the whole fucking country doing it? Maybe not so bad. But let's say even 1 in 10 does. Colossal trainwreck because of sad little boys and girls who didn't want to suck it up and take one for the team and stay home so that everyone can get past this. Short-term gain for long-term pain is the stupidest philosophy. Being selfish is being selfish regardless of if it makes you happy. That's sorta the whole point of selfishness. It benefits one to fuck over others.
