Mandate is when you are forced to do something.

"You can't smoke inside the resturant" is not a mandate
"You have to go to the resutrant and you must smoke inside it or the government will arrest you for not smoking inside it" is a mandate.

Your kids have to go to school. If you don't make them go to school the goverment will literally take them away from you and force them.

That's a mandate

"Resturants might not serve you unless you abide by x" is not a mandate.

...tc, if you're forced to get a vaccine or lose your job, how is that not functionally the same thing?

oh, and on the matter of schools, you can just refuse to get your kid vaccinated and home school them. they wont "mandate" it then.

At some point for the COVID one, yes.

Things like childhood vaccines? Yes, no question. There should be heavy penalties until you so if you want to participate in society.

Vaccine's are one of human kind's great achievements. I am vaccinated with all relevant vaccinations. I encourage people to be vaccinated. I believe that businesses, organizations, etc. should absolutely have the right to withhold services from people who choose not to be vaccinated.

That said, I don't like the idea of the government mandating a vaccine. I don't believe they should have the right to inject anything into our bodies without our consent. I mean we are on in the final stretch of deeply incompetent, malicious, selfish and horrible administration that has run the country for four years. I would have real qualms if the Trump administration required me to get some sort of vaccine. And as much as I'd like to believe this government won't be run by legitimately evil people again, I know that won't be true.
