Not exclusively a white liberal thing, but mostly used by Hispanics, Latino liberals that have a lot of white liberal friends.

Never seen it used by Hispanic, Latino liberals that don't have that many white liberal friends, associates.

It's an USA thing because everyone in Latin America just refers to themselves as Mexican, Colombian, Venezuelan, etc.

All my life I always used Hispanic and I never used Latino.

i think i'm white, according to the census, or maybe i'm x-something-x
ive also considered myself mexican-american but what does that even mean anymore
i think it just changes every few years anyway

And gender neutral words like zer are used by even less % of white people. People don't like changing habits for people first language what's new.

Where I work at least half of the people that work in my room are Hispanic immigrants, pretty sure they are all Americans at this point, but not a single one of them uses this term.
