Current Events > About to play Metro 2033. Any advice? Missables?

All I know is it is about a bunch of miserable Russians living underground after the surface became poop.

It's a fairly straight forward game, not much prep needs to go into it. The only thing I can think of is good bullets are money so make sure you don't accidentally shoot them if you want to buy stuff later. They also do more damage though. Neat system.

I'm more of a fan of Stealth and Survival Horror than generic shooting so if there is an option to save bullets I'm probably gonna do it.

Right of the bat got stuck inside of a guy's legs, fated to permenantly give him a lapdance.

Reloaded the checkpoint and only lost like 5 seconds but still a funny glitch

I would recommend playing the game in Russian with English subtitles. Adds a lot of immersion.

Edit: Actually, on second thought, that might not be the best idea on a first playthrough. Most of the dialogue from NPCs standing around in the stations doesn't have subtitles, so you'd miss it if you don't understand the language.

Yeah that really bugged me

I could barely hear what the dudes were saying because it was quiet and other dudes were talking over it

Which I guess is the point, to make it seem like a happening place where people live that has background chatter but I put subtitles on for a reason damn it >:(

Also the girls seem awful pretty for starved hordes living underground in the dank

First impressions:

The atmosphere is great. Just going around these bum towns listening to people live their lives is better than most plot heavy walking simulators.

The shooting is poo. Hope it either picks up or allows me to side-step doing it. It's so generic and the enemies/weapons/enviroment are so dull.

The story is atrocious.

It's super distracting that the "HUURGH!" sound effect for swinging is that generic one that was used in tons of FPS' games for jumping back in the day

Makes me think of Quake 2

Not sure if intentional but I am totally disoreitated on the surface.

It ca't seem to work out where to go and just kinda bumble my way towards victory

I know there is a compass but it keeps pointing at dead ends.

I was just stuck for ages on a train with Khan and webs

Turns out you have to pull out a lighter ad burn them... but the game never told me about that or how to do it...

There's no clear idication of whether the enemy can see you

Sometimes I can walk right up to enemies and do a little dance and they don't notice

Other times I can be crouched behind some barrells in a seperate room and every single enemy in the level will be alerted to me

Were there aliens? I don't remember that lol. I struggled to follow what was going on though. I think the game is kinda like Witcher in that it is technically a sequel to the book(s). It also had a ton of eurojank, which was generally improved in the next game.

I'm not following the plot entirely but the implication has been that aliens somehow are responsible for blowing up the world but it was a mistake and they are trying to commuciate.

Problem is everytime they do everyone they talk to dies, goes insane or falls asleep. Except Artyom who is immune to Jigglypuff's song.

It's totally at odds with the atmosphere of the rest of the game tho, it's like they walked in from X-Com or something.

IIRC the lights on your watch show your visibility, green means you're in stealth, red means you can be seen. Lighting matters. It's still kinda janky even knowing how it's supposed to work.

Great series. If you have good karma at the end of the game you can do... something other than just stand there.

It was like that for me too until I reached The Library. I was dangerously close to running out at that point

So right now I am using a crane to pull rods out of a giant...... thing... That looks like it walked in from Resident Evil

I'm doing this because it will power up Railway Station... Which will somehow enable us to launch nukes that will blow up the aliens ...

I confess I'm not quite grasping this plot
