unstable, intel pc:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HyTPXb

stable, amd pc:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/N2hkTJ

i have major stability problems with the intel pc insomuch as i can't get it to reboot
it starts up fine, mostly, though it often just does the reboot result as well
upon reboot it never restarts
i often can see bios but can't get to windows
fans start and lights start and then things kinda shut off but sometimes fans keep running or something i don't know what's happening
i've updated all the drivers that i can and i'm using a 65" 4k tv as my monitor
sidenote: i bought both of the 3080s 2nd-hand, but i don't think the asus 3080 (the intel 3080) is shot for any reason, how would i tell really?

the amd pc went so easily, every was really smooth and it kills everything i try to do handily it was fun and made me want to do another but now it's like frustrating and not working out

I am in no way an expert, but maybe you have either bad RAM or a bad PSU or motherboard.

could that still be the case if i have gotten everything up and running perfectly at points?
like i played 30 minutes of ac origins at ultra high settings and about 80 fps until i decided to quit, not a crash
but it did stutter a bit in a way the amd computer just doesn't at all

might be overheating? the stuff where the lights / fans come on but then it dies before BIOS reminds me of what happened when my CPU was overheating. in my case the CPU's heat sink was clogged to shit with dust/dirt. i cleaned it out and it started right up next time. the 'reboot' issue may simply happen because the machine was on long enough to get hot. what if you let it sit on for a while, then shut down + start instead of "reboot"?

when i have things up and running i checked the nzxt cam software monitor thing and it's putting the cpu at an easy 35* after the aforementioned ac origins test
i don't THINK it's overheating...

850w is definitely enough. if the PSU is the culprit it's not working 100% of the time

when you "reboot" are you doing it via software (ie Windows) or via hardware (special button on the case)? if the latter, double-check that it's wired up correctly. if software, i got nothing else rn

sometimes to the point when i go over and button push it to die, i still can't button push it back on
i'll have to pull the psu cord for a sec then push button again

do you have a PSU tester? i ended up buying one for like $20 a long time ago and it's been handy to debug stuff like this, it'll let you test all connections coming out of the PSU to verify they all provide the correct voltage / etc

i do not
is it possible that i've fucked up my wiring of the power sources?
or would that cause an auto-always-fail type scenario?

i dont think the wiring being bad would explain the inconsistencies. i have noticed inconsistencies when my PSU isn't working right. when that was happening, it would work sometimes and not others (was flaky)

edit: im not an expert on this stuff by any means which is why ive been trying to make non-assertive statements like "i think" and "maybe". im just relaying my experiences which may be anecdotal here.

AMD baby aww yeah

honestly i'm feeling this way
the intel shit isn't functioning without lots of homework and when it was functioning, it was wayyy behind the amd machine i also built
it's very possible though that it's just heavily me and i can't get it firing on all cylinders because it's more technical to do so with the intel chip and/or the difference in the msi vs asus motherboards/bios

Maybe take the CPU out of the socket and see if the socket has any bent pins.

Otherwise it could be the motherboard you chose to use.

It just means the motherboard you used is mediocre and maybe the BIOS it uses isn't stable.

You'd really only be able to get a different motherboard to get around that.

Some ram sticks are power hungry. Mine was giving me blue screen a lot until I upped the voltage and its been fine since.

I think it's the A-die or the B-die ones. You should Google your motherboard model with your ram and see if anyone else has the same problem and hopefully you find the solution.

Take the RAM out of the amd pc and put it in the Intel one. If you get the same issue then swap PSUs. If you get the same issue then it's the motherboard or cpu. Also rgb power supplies are a meme.

okay i'll try this
i bought the RGB power supply because i thought my girls would dig it
the one i built with intel has RGB stuff in it for them, the amd one i built for my office is just a monster and RGB is incidental

I had a similar thing happen when I put new RAM in my computer. It would work fine, but after shutoff, it wouldn't boot. I'd unplug it and then it would work fine, but wouldn't boot the next time. I put the RAM in the other paired slots and it's worked fine ever since. It might be worth it to try that. Just make sure the RAM is running at full frequency if it does boot.
