Why the fuck is Ronald Reagan not on the poll?

The answer is Trump of course. Followed by Buchanan and then Jackson. Then Reagan.

He certainly should have gotten a slot over Dubya, who was just trying to be Reagan 2.

wilson:
  • sold america into perennial financial slavery to the big banks
  • introduced draconian legislation to suppress anti-war dissidents that is still abused to this day
  • ran and won as a peace candidate before proceeding to deliberately get america involved in a war that killed almost 120k americans
  • in the process of the previous point, tipped the balance of power in the war and at versailles and played a critical role in geopolitically paving the way for the rise of hitler in germany
  • open racist and apologist for the confederacy and kkk
  • segregated federal government workers

James Buchanan actively assisted the southern states in repressing Blacks (Endorsed the Dredd Scott case, Tried to ignore the Missouri compromise to admit Kansas as a slave state), And left the country on the brink of Civil War.

Andrew Johnson allowed the southern states to return to the union without and protections for the newly freed slaves, Setting the stage for the next century of racial injustice, Also the first sitting president to be impeached.

James Buchanan gleefully celebrated the infamous Dred Scott decision(wherein Chief Justice Robert Taney ruled that not only could slaves not become freed unless freed by their masters, but that they definitionally were not and could never be citizens), as a final resolution to the slavery question. His administration also facilitated the secession of the South and transferred tons of guns, cannons, powder, etc. to military storehouses in the South.

Johnson actively sabotaged Reconstruction and apparently promoted all kinds of bizarre conspiracy theories. The Radical Republicans attempted to impeach him, but the Senate acquitted him by one (Moderate Republican) vote. Some of the moderates believed he would learn his lesson, but then Johnson turned around and issued a blanket pardon of all Confederates, which enabled them to immediately get back into politics(in the normal way, not just Klan domestic terrorism), which ultimately enabled the old Southern elite to restore itself to power.

I have two answers for this question depending on how its meant.

1. Who is the worst president based upon the events that transpired during their term?

Probably either Jackson or Buchanan.

2. Who would be the worst president to have, given a certain set of events and circumstances.

The answer here is Trump without a doubt. If you thought Buchanan was bad, imagine Trump in his shoes. The same for Jackson, Johnson, Reagan, etc.

Actually, Trump would probably be less damaging than Buchanan was in the same situation, because Trump is stupid and incompetent in a way Buchanan really wasn't. If you have to have evil, it's best that it's woefully incompetent and telegraphs what it's doing in advance.
In Johnson's place, he probably would have been about as bad.
In Jacksons'....LOL. Jackson was pretty nuts, but he was also pretty canny and quite a bit smarter than his opponents gave him credit(Jackson used his reputation to mislead and outmaneuver opposition, which suggests a capability for self-effacement that Trump lacks).

Reagan wasn't a good president, he's just massively overrated due to a (highly successful) propaganda campaign launched in his final years in office. Trump would absolutely be worse than him: he would have engaged in (or enabled) all the same evil, but it's impossible to imagine him giving undocumented immigrants amnesty or negotiating with Gorbachev in good faith.

This.

But I still say Trump. He ignored a pandemic that killed hundreds of thousands of Americans, actively damaged our relationships with our long-standing foreign allies, screwed over the environment, education, the FCC and the USPS by appointing corporate yes-men over those industries, and is outright refusing to accept that he lost a fair election and is blatantly trying to stage a coup (let's not pretend that it's not one).

Other Presidents have done shitty things, but I can't think of someone who actively harmed the country itself.

Andrew Jackson because he was the 19th century Hitler

Rutherford B. Hayes because he ended Reconstruction and let the south do whatever the fuck they wanted, setting civil rights back another two centuries

Thomas Jefferson because he was a serial killing rapist of slaves

All are worse and it's not up to debate. Donald Trump is bottom 10 though guaranteed, arguably bottom 5.
