Yup. Pretty soon abuse rates, drug related death, HIV spread, and violent crime are going to plummet in the state.

It might as well be the same thing, drug dealers wont be prosecuted. So what if there isn't a Heroin storefront that you can just walk in.

That's a bad idea, that would hurt a lot more people than it helps. Unlike decriminalizing drugs, which has been objectively proven to help exponentially more people than it hurts

Don't worry, literally every example we have of places that tried this have shown that overdose rates will actually fall dramatically. Hospitals will have more room. At least if Oregon is like literally anywhere else where this has been attempted.

And homelessness, drug related deaths, and violent crime will spike just as it has in San Francisco when they did the same thing.

Yes there is. No one should ever go to jail for doing drugs. We need to help those people

its still illegal to buy and sell it, just not to possess it under a certain amount. If people wanted to do heroin before they could have, this wont suddenly change that.

do you think all the people buying weed at dispensaries now werent smoking before it was legal?

I'm pretty conservative, but I think this is good. Drug war is bullshit. Also, I'd like to see it everywhere, but honestly it's probably better for it to just be one or two places to start, so everyone can see how it does.

I don't see how this helps drug addicts. Sure, they get a slap on the wrist and get pushed into rehab, but it's up to the person to decide to stick to rehab and get the help they need. When they're allowing their addiction, why get help?

I truly don't see how this is being celebrated, and question who here actually has dealt with addicts. I have two in my family that have stolen, and ripped off my grandparents so much that they have to go on lock-down whenever they get out of prison. These are the type of people that have had every opportunity to change their life, have been given jobs, apartments, rehab, etc and it never works.

This whole warped thinking of jail = bad is incredible to me. I would much rather know these addicts are actually serving time and are away from innocents than just getting a $100 fine (yeah, I bet they'll pay this.) and pushed into a rehab that they will most likely just dip out from.
