He heard there were a bunch of ships in CSIV and got confused.

I said fuck it and got the game refunded. Luckily since it was my first time refunding literally anything the dude did a one time exception (even overlooked the fact that my purchase was over 14 days ago, which would make any refund request an automatic no). But I've waited too damn long to not play this game so I got the standard edition. Should be done downloading in a couple minutes.

The way refunds are handled in console gaming is a fucking disgrace

holy shit how did i not know this was coming out? easily my favorite series of all time and it wasn't long ago i put 100+ hours in cold steel 3. @Will_VIIII why didn't you tell me this was out? i ordered immediately on amazon but will try to pick one up at gamestop tomorrow/today and gift the one i ordered to a friend i got into the series

Wish all the other Legend of Heroes games were easily available in English. Trails of Cold Steel is easily the best written JRPG series in existence.

Also be careful about putting it on your YT history. Some people will sadly put some pretty hefty spoilers in titles or thumbnails that you really don't want in your recommended feed

I may also wait for the steam edition even though my copy arrived yesterday for ps4. I played 3 on steam so that's where my save file is, and I've read some reviews that criticize the localization. Nisa will be releasing a patch to fix it up along with some bugs too so I can hold out.

Also for those who haven't, I've heard that not having played Zero or Azure might cause some confusion. Unfortunately CS4 only includes summaries for 1-3 and nothing for the Sky or Crossbell games. That's a mistake IMO.

At least 3 was so well written that if you didn't play any sky or Crossbell titles that you got the gist of key events but they would have far less impact on you.

Take what you see with a grain of salt. Not everything will be as it seems :)

And on a slightly unrelated note, I was skimming the Falcom subreddit to find that someone decided to redo the Nayuta no Kiseki translation and released that today, too lol. From the comparison shots, it's soooo much better.

Currently on Trails in the Sky SC, stuck on the final Renne fight near the end. Her giant mech literally one-shots my guys.

I'm so far behind. :(

What? The three trails in the sky games are on steam. Zero and Ao can be purchased pretty easily now too and both have fairly good English translations if you cant read Japanese. Zeros is excellent and Aos is very good with some small issues here and there but totally worth playing through.

cold steel 3 and 4 do not hit the same without playing Crossbell.

In case anyone is in the same boat and reading this, go to the game's Deluxe page on the PSN store and there will be a Download option. It doesn't redownload the game or anything, but it'll add all the DLC to it.

luckily my local gamestop had one copy left...i just started it and i am so fucking pumped

3 is maybe my favorite game of all time so i am really hoping 4 is on the same level. the music is definitely amazing tho

I'd say at the very least, read up on some summaries or find some YouTube videos that summarize the most important plot points.

The problem is that doesnt get your emotionally invested into the people and places of Crossbell. You are supposed to be able to see yourself in Junas shoes showing the new cast around a place you know really well. It makes that entire chapter feel different if you have that emotional attachment to the NPCs and areas.

This. Watching characters grow and develop throughout the whole series is what gets people hooked into the series in the first place. Reading some summary that just goes "This is Bob. Bob did things. Bob is now dead." just isn't the same lol

3 to me has been a step down in many areas for 2, including music. 2 has hands down my favorite falcom soundtrack

3 is still great though. Shame bout how easy it is to break however. I'm playing hard and it's getting a bit more difficult toward the end but regular monsters are still a cakewalk that barely ever touch me

idk what it is to me about 3, probably mainly the story and how it made me feel throughout the game. right before 3 came i out i replayed 1 and 2 in the weeks leading up so i was definitely fully emotionally invested

also i was completely blindsided by 4 coming out somehow when i saw this thread. probably because i haven't been that active on gamefaqs lately and somehow just never saw the announcement about this coming out. either way it was definitely the best surprise i have had in a long time and already have 3 hours in 4. looks amazing so far

This is how I feel, as well.

In terms of playing the previous games, I definitely agree that playing them yourself is easily the best option. And they're all great games, so it isn't like I feel like I'm asking someone to crawl through nails to get to the good part or something. But if that's not doable, maybe a junky PC or something, I'd help them look for a good summary if they wanted. Either option is better than carrying on without imo, especially in terms of Crossbell plot and some Liberl character arcs.
