I just threw up in my mouth. Conservatism and the right is by definition the furthest thing from punk.

He doesn't mean that Conservatism is actually punk, but that, when the broader society is becoming more progressive, then being conservative becomes the new counter culture.

And that is true, but might be premature to say at this point.

It probably has something to do with the idea of rebellion. The country was founded by rebellion so the idea of it is cemented in the Constitution itself. Its why the majority of militias are far right and think theyre there waiting to fight a tyrannical government.

Since this country has become more progressive and the Federal Government has become more powerful, some on the right see it as conservative to rebel against the idea of the modern country because thats literally how the country was formed. Rebellion from tyranny, only now tyranny means the people who want to charge a little more for taxes.

Another aspect is libertarianism. It being the right wing version of people who want little to no government interference in life. Thats the only aspect of the right wing in which I could argue is remotely punk, except I would never because the average libertarian is some middle class white dude who doesnt want to fund roads or some shit.

This dumb idea conservatives get doesn't really need to be thought out.

They're more rebellious like the confederacy or the NAZI Beer Hall Putsch.

Rebellion isnt a left or right thing. The purpose is replacing the status quo. Whether that means replacing a king with a democracy or a communist dictatorship, its a rebellion. Just because Hitler tried leading a rebellion to start a right wing Authoritarian state, it doesnt discredit Castro leading a rebellion to start a left wing Authoritarian state.

And besides, a random neckbeard with a Dont Tread on Me shirt that will literally never actually try to rise up against tyranny is no different from a random neckbeard with a Che Guevara shirt that will literally never actually try to rise up against tyranny.

This context is V for Vendetta and punk which American right wingers are definitely not.

I listed two right wing rebellions that are accurate. They rebel against the concept of human rights for everyone.

Repubs obviously thinks themselves as righteous heroes and the opposing party are the evil bad government. I believe it's as simple as that. They also believe if Batman was real he'd be on their side.

The same reason they unironically refer to themselves as being "red pilled" as in taking the red pill in The Matrix when their philosophy is the exact opposite. If anything they're like Cypher, the guy who betrays his team because he wants to reject the reality that he finds unpleasant and go back to the simple, comfortable way he used to see the world.

The same reason that, to them, Tyler Durden is a heroic truthteller who is "fixing" feminized, PC society.

Basically anything that they like and consider cool, they convince themselves it agrees with their world view and adapt it in their minds to fit that.

It's because they are supposed to be the party of small government and freedom. Completely contrary to the boner they have for the military and policy though.
