I feel like English is usually where the nerdy/bookish types get to thrive? This seems like a weird meme for them to push.

Basically they say that the female English teachers are pick mes and are trying to relive high school by being cool with the popular guys....but I never got that vibe from my teachers. If anything the only inappropriate teachers were guy teachers who were young talking to girls

I was not any of those things and my English teachers loved me

My English teachers were, as far as I remember, pretty impartial and got along well with almost everyone. There were some bad ones at my school, but I mostly had really good ones.

one was a math rock nerd and the other was the bassist for SSD, damn

As an English teacher myself, here is my take on it.

Teachers are sort of expected to help out athletes who bring revenue/acclaim/attention to the school. I've never once ever been pressured into giving them a better grade, or allowing them to cheat, etc. etc. I have been told by those above me that due to their schedule they will need extensions to their papers and extra help if they are away for sports.

The same offer is extended to those who are away for any other reason. This could be a family trip that a student partakes of and the students are offered extra help and extensions. It could be students who have had a recent trip to emergency, or a family crisis, etc. etc.

As educators we are taught now in University that absence of proof (assignments not produced) should not be reflected in 0's. That is presuming that they know nothing about the subject. Therefore, as educators, we are taught now to try to allow as much time as is possible for students to hand in assignments, to work on papers, etc. etc. to let them showcase their knowledge. Obviously there is a limit to what can be done and we are encouraged to set limits on time as a reflection of what real life will be like... but quite frankly it's all about just making sure shit is handed in, even if it is like a MONTH late.

I played varsity basketball and all my teachers liked me.

I guess it helped that I actually did my homework.

I was on good terms with most of my teachers. I wasn't a jock though. There were definitely some who tried to be cool with their class but often that ended up backfiring. Just don't imo

Never noticed this. I know teachers like me, cause I liked to engage them in lieu of actually doing any work.

My English teacher specifically used to hand around a "genius" badge for people who showed particular insight into stuff. I got to wear it one afternoon. Best afternoon ever lmao
