I'm very tired and when tired my head makes weird connections...

For example; I was thinking what would happen if the planet was in free fall between two Portals... but that's kinda what orbit is anyways

So what if the portals were also orbiting the sun, so that every few minutes when the planet enters the portals again, does the sudden change in directoinality towards the sun affect the planet in any way or no?

It would result in a very irregular day/night cycle that would be rather abrupt at times, and depending on how far apart the portals were it might actually prevent the planet from having seasons (or at least make the changes much less pronounced), but I imagine any life on the planet could adapt to those oddities.
