A Link to the Past
Super Metroid

Pretty easy 1-2 even though I love JRPG's and this system has a ton of great ones.

Chrono Trigger would probably take #3 though if I can include Super Famicom games that would probably be bumped down slightly by Seiken Densetsu 3 aka Trials of Mana.

uh oh my taste matches exactly with Zeus (who's the only other person to mention the greatness that is Lufia II)

Lufia 2 is pretty damn strong, I would definitely have it in my top 10, top 3 is too high for it in my opinion.

During my childhood, from the amount of time I had fun with them including revisiting them multiple times:
  1. Kirby Super Star
  2. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Triple Trouble
  3. Super Mario All-Stars (especially Super Mario Bros. 3)
  4. Honorable mentions: Donkey Kong Country (I didn't have DKC2 but I rented it only once), Mega Man X, Mega Man X2, Mortal Kombat II, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (only rented a few times)

Currently, probably (this could change still and I'm also taking future enhanced ports into account like GBA, DS, PSP enhanced ports/remakes):
  1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  2. Final Fantasy VI
  3. Chrono Trigger

Lufia II is good, but not in my top five. I'm not sure if it makes my top ten.

That infamous, oddball numbering is why I use Arabic numerals 2 and 3 or Roman ones IV and VI, respectively. I alternate between these and sometimes state both out of habit.

FFIV
ALttP
FFVI

... The third one is hard to pick, but the first two are easy because those were my go-to games when I was a little kid, especially when I was depressed. The SNES had a fuck-ton of good games, though, and even some of the ones that are not so good had elements I really like.

  1. Link to the Past
  2. Super Mario RPG
  3. Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball

For pure enjoyment/quality/whatever I could sub: Chrono Trigger, FFVI, Earthbound, Super Mario World, the DKC series (though I think 3 might actually be my favourite above 2) and all the other very obvious choices everyone else has made repeatedly in this thread but those 3 are the ones I continually play again and again. I've beaten SMRPG like 10 times and briefly started learning how to speed run it. LttP was one of the first games I ever owned. Ken Griffey I can just pick up and jam whenever and it's still a great fun game.

They have used the Japanese numbers in all regions since FF VII and that came out over 20 years ago. It's pretty easy to go by those numbers especially since they are the right numbering system and going by what's on the SNES cart labels skips FF games.
