Phoenix police answer noise disturbance. Armed man answers door and is met with blinding light to his face. He is wielding a firearm, which he immediately begins to relinquish as he drops to the ground with hands in the air. Within seconds, police open fire on this man, shooting him 3 times in the back, killing him.

I gasped. Heart racing. We are living in china. The police will continue to kill with impunity until their systems are ABSOLUTELY GUTTED and they face justice for their crimes

Ryan Whitaker was sitting at home with his girlfriend playing video games when he was killed by police.

A noise complaint from an annoyed neighbor resulted in cops shooting and killing a man within five seconds of him opening his front door.

Ryan Whitaker opened the door holding a gun in his right hand which is legal in Arizona but it made the cops fear for their lives.

However, the cops never gave him a chance to put the gun down which he appeared to be trying to do when one cop shot him in the back three times.

"Why did you guys shoot him?" Whitaker's girlfriend, Brandee Nees, yelled as she stepped into the doorway.

"He just pulled a gun on us, ma'am," Phoenix police officer Jeff Cooke said.

"Because it's dark and someone just knocked on the door," Nees responded.

When Phoenix police officer John Ferragamo asked Nees if she and Whitaker had been fighting, she told him they were only playing video games.

"Literally we were making salsa and playing Crash Bandicoot so there may have been some screaming from PlayStation but it wasnt domestic violence or anything," she said.
The incident took place on May 22 after an upstairs neighbor called police to complain about the noise.

"I gotta get to work tomorrow and I'm getting no sleep," said the neighbor in the second 911 call he made to police at 10:44 p.m.

When the dispatcher asked if the verbal argument has turned physical, he said it had turned physical but sounded as if he was just saying that to get police to respond quicker.

"It could be physical," he said. "I could say yeah if that makes anybody hurry on up. Get anybody here faster."
The cops arrived eight minutes later and knocked on the door with one of them yelling "Phoenix police" before both of them stepped off to the side, making it impossible for anybody to see them through the peephole. When Whitaker opened the door with the gun to his side, the cops shined their flashlights in his face, blinding him before noticing the gun.

"Whoa! Hands! Hands! Hands!" Ferragamo yelled as Whitaker lowered his body with his left hand in the air and his right hand appearing to be putting the gun down.

Cooke then fired three times, shooting him in the back.

We have to be responsible and avoid calling the police if it's possible. They are thirsty for blood, and blood they will take

We live in a country where gun rights and owning fire arms is talked about like owning a vast shoe collection, this man legally opens his door with his weapon, calmly attempts to put it down when he sees who was at the door, and is just blatantly murdered. Point blank. And his killers will go home, have dinner with their families, cry some crocodile tears then be let back on the street to do it again. Fuck this countrys principles. Something similar happened to my friend when he lived in Phoenix except he didn't die. Dude was playing Smash with his gf and I guess a neighbor called the cops because they were being loud and they thought there was some domestic violence shit. He opened the door slightly then tells the cops to leave because nothing is happening, started to close it then one of the cops barged the door open, put him in a chokehold and arrested him. Fucked up his life a little bit because he couldn't substitute teach anymore apparently.

He probably wanted to look tough because he assumed his neighbor was knocking, and now he paid the ultimate price for it... If there is a gun involved, some bad shit always happens. I dont answer my door with a fire arm and I lived in a horrible neighborhood as a kid.

Second, why the fuck did the cop shoot him when the suspect had his hands in the air? I thought they undergo training for this stuff. He literally pulled the trigger out of nerves, he wasnt being attacked... Horrible police officer, and horribly stupid civilian.

People show up banging on my door late at night, I'm at least checking the peephole with a weapon in hand. It's just the way the world is. If it's someone who needs my help I can easily cast the weapon aside, far easier than I can run and grab it if I need it and don't have it.

What was he charged with? It doesn't sound like he did anything illegal. You can close the door on a cop, i think

All of the anti-BLM all lives matter crowd say that we only care about black people, that they care about police brutality too, we shouldn't make it racial. But they're utterly pin drop silent when something like this or Daniel Shaver happens. They ultimately just don't care about people being killed by police and don't wanna hear us act like it's a thing that shouldn't happen.

Dicey area. Most jurisdictions have a variation of an "obstructing a peace officer" statute though the scope tends to vary state by state.

Depends a lot on the statute and the factual circumstances.

Not exactly sure I just know that he was still fighting domestic abuse charges after a night in jail even though his girlfriend didn't press charges, because nothing happened. Still not sure how this all didn't get thrown out immediately.
