I doubt anyone will believe me but I have lived in cali most of my life and no there isn't poop everywhere, just in San Francisco. But yea Cali has been on a downward spiral for a long time. I used to love living here, now I'm trying to save up enough to get out.

yeah, its expensive as hell to live here and I dont blame anyone for wanting to leave but it isnt this dystopian hell hole conservatives make it out to be. Ive spent a pretty decent amount of time in SF and while the homeless problem is bad, Ive never seen poop in the streets. Im sure it happens but probably not any more/less than any other major city.

There are parts of San Francisco that have a large homeless population which leads to used needles and poop on the streets. The city is aware and has help programs. It is annoying that conservatives cherry pick these locations and say this is what all of Cali is like.

Low income parts of all major cities are cesspools. That's not to say low income parts in rural areas are great either but they tend to at least be a good bit less dangerous and there are less drifters, junkies, and cracked out prostitutes wandering about

I'm from California, the Bay Area in particular, so I've seen the rise of homeless populations first-hand. It really is a real issue. That being said, I've never seen or dealt with feces on the street, and I walk everywhere. I also have worked extensively with homeless relief networks and have talked and engaged with lots of homeless people, and there are mainly two types of homeless people in the Bay Area of California:

1) Those who were priced out of their homes because of gentrification. This gentrification has largely happened because of the influx of techies into the area and inflation going rampant because of greedy landlords with little to no rent protection in a lot of places. Many of those landlords, interestingly, are Chinese people still living in China. Is China purposely inflating prices and perpetuating the problem, or is it just an opportunity they saw that was easy to exploit? I don't know the answer there.

2) The far larger category of homeless people, interestingly enough, have been bussed in from other states. I can't tell you how many homeless people I've met who were given a one-way bus ticket to California. It's kind of insane. The right likes to scaremonger about homelessness in California, but we're the ones who took in those they just shipped away.

There are also just perpetual homeless people who have never had a real house that don't quite fit into either category, and there are also drifters and hobos who purposely come to California because of the weather. If you've ever been to Santa Cruz (went to college there myself) I'd say a good portion of those homeless are train-hoppers.

I've also lived in L.A. and NYC and there's homelessness problems there too. I'd guess L.A. has the same problem of homeless people being bussed in, but gentrification is happening to some degree in most cities. And that's not to say gentrification is inherently bad, but it certainly has a negative effect on the people who can't keep up with the price.

I'm currently living in Las Vegas and I'd say the homeless problem is just as bad as the Bay Area, and Nevada up until very recently was dominated by Republicans. It's just easier to hide the problem here because so many of the homeless live in the tunnels underground out of sight. I've traveled extensively all around this country and there's not a place I've been that didn't have homeless people, including small towns in rural areas.

Homelessness isn't an issue of Democrats vs. Republicans. They both perpetuate it. Unfettered capitalism with few social safety nets is the larger issue. The simplest, cheapest, and most effective solution for homelessness is to just give them all homes. Unfortunately people buy into stereotypes and think programs like that would be supporting lazy drug addicts on that state's dime, when in reality the vast majority of homeless people I've met are eager to work and fit into society. Some use drugs/alcohol to cope with their harsh living conditions; they didn't become homeless because of addiction, homelessness led them to addiction. That's not to say there *aren't* homeless people who were addicts first, but in my experience they are far from a majority, and more often than not they have unsupported mental conditions that contributed to that descent first. Homeless people need support, not demonization, but it's easier for people to scaremonger and create an "other" of the people at the fringes of society than it is to have empathy, I guess.

Probably should add, I was homeless for a couple weeks myself as a young adult. I was working full-time the whole time I was homeless. Not every homeless person is a beggar, a lot of them actually do have jobs. Thankfully I had a good support network at the time that helped me find affordable stable housing. Most homeless people don't have the support or advantages I had.

I went to the chevron by six flags and a crapload of people came asking for money. Another dude came with a gas canister expecting me to pay for his gas also
