Comedians, as a whole, were getting so damn cocky about themselves. And I swear, not one I'm aware of doesn't talk about the "pc culture blah blah blah". Mark Normand is a perfect example. For that reason and more, I don't mind that a whole industry died.

The other thing I wouldn't mind going bankrupt is wrestling. But Trump will probably give them 500 million dollars that was supposed to go to teachers or something, so they have a better chance to survive.

I mean, it is definitely taking a big hit as an industry. There is no doubt about that, but what do you mean by saying that it is over? The comedy clubs in my area have been opening up for shows so I haven't seen anything close down. I don't know how other areas are doing with comedy.

Obviously no theater shows or arena shows for a long time still. Just reduced capacity comedy clubs.

I will say that I won't feel comfortable going to a comedy club for a while and prior to the pandemic I was at comedy clubs once or twice a week. I have a hard time imagining feeling safe enough to be around all of that.

Most of what was used as material and considered funny is now offensive. Comedians have to walk on egg shells because if one person finds something to be mad about, and stirs up a shit storm about it, their career is basically over. It's hardly worth it at this point, it's an art left in the past.

I agree, I cant stand how so many comedians tell an unfunny bit and just blame the audience for being offended. They didnt laugh because it wasnt funny.

Even if thats true, isnt a comedian supposed to make a particular audience laugh?

Local comedy is dead outside of LA and NY and once they get big enough to be on Netflix they arent relatable. Half of Chapelles shit involves how rich he is. Like Im supposed to laugh at the minor inconveniences your wealth causes you?

Hardly any of them are being "cancelled" so not really. They just want to be exempt from even the smallest amount of criticism.

Every set is brought down whenever a comedian goes on a cancel culture rant. Every comedian has done it at this point and its unoriginal and unfunny.

Most stand up comedians are awful, there's only really one I enjoy. That's Stewart Lee.

Wrestling is great although American wrestling is almost all garbage so that going out of business wouldn't be too bad

Most major comedians just got super annoying. Complaining about cancel culture because the jokes they told 20 years ago don't go over the same anymore

Ricky Gervais is a good example. His shtick got real old over the last few years

The New York comedy scene and the comedians that worked the scene is great. Theyre all a bunch of savages that dont give a f***.

The LA scene, specifically The Rogan crew, is annoying when it comes to the PC stuff because they use it as an out when in fact their jokes just arent that funny.

at least they don't have to worry about "cancel culture" anymore.

Comedians, as a rule, are generally extremely self-conscious and suffer hard from imposter syndrome. This is why so many of them are drug addicts. They make up for this by putting a mask on when they go up on stage and by feeling good about themselves for making people laugh and have a good time after the fact.

The reason they currently rail against PC culture is because it is incredibly difficult to be funny when everythings off-limits and being funny is basically what gives their lives meaning.

I think that at best it will take a very significant hit. It will be a while until any comedians are making big money from stand up again. It has always been a very flimsy industry that always managed to stay afloat anyways.

I'm trying to be optimistic here. I know things are bad right now.

Like I don't know what to say. I want to say there will be a vaccine widely available in 2021 and things start to go back to normal.
