All of my grandparents are from the same country. And I guess if I went one generation deeper, it's still the same place, but with a different name.

just my parents.

my grandparents died when I was young, and I never really knew their names.

my mom and dad could apparently trace their families back hundreds of years, and knew the names of their clans, but I never asked them.

maybe I'll ask my mom one day.

My grandfather traced his side of the family back to the mayflower. My dads mom was from Germany and moved here during WW2

last guy in the traceable line was mentioned as being ousted from his parish for profiteering during a famine, or something like that.

I am half Italian, and then a quarter Scottish and Polish.

The Italian side is Northern Italian by blood, but I guess we left from the middle of the peninsula.
((I am one of the most pale, as in I can't really tan, and blue-eyed Italians out there))

The Scottish side came via Manchester England.
I know very little about the Polish side.

Northern Italians are mainly Germanic and Celtic Origin. The American image of an Italian is Sicilian based because that's where most of the immigrants came from.

lets see.

  • all i know about my shit side of the family (fathers side) is that they were dirt farmers that came over during the potato famine.
  • on my mothers side i know that her fathers family comes from a "cabin boy" indentured servant
  • on her mothers side they can apparently link the family to several presidents and john rolfe.

Grandparents. I have very little interest in my distant lineage if I'm honest, both before and after.

Edit: really I never knew any grandparent very well, nor any of my aunts or uncles.

someone in my extended family is really into family trees and has spent massive amounts of time and effort compiling a family tree that goes back like 15 generations or something crazy. we have family reunions every 2 years and there's always new people there I haven't met before who I share a great-great-great-great-great grandfather with or whatever

it's sort of weird

Ya, I have no olive skin at all. Even though Olive Oil is Life!!

But to your point, my grandfather used to joke, some of the Swiss got over the border. ;-)

My Mom, who was Polish and Scottish had brown eyes and brown hair.
My Second cousin who was Italian had blue eyes and light skin...as did my father.

Very ethnically homogeneous developing country. But like I said, because we have a decent revolution every 50 years, I'm not sure if it's disingenuous or outright wrong to say they're from the same place.

Back mid 1500's or something. My dad got really into it.

Our family was from Switzerland and moved to the US back around when it began and settled in central PA.
