Do the books still hold up for adults?

DId J. K. Rowling change the books recently and added any dumb Lucas-style edits like wizards shitting their pants, or are the reprints still the same as they were in the 00's?

Also, she changed a pivotal scene where now Harry shoots first instead of Voldy

I read through them in my early twenties, just to see what the hubbub was about. They were fine. I definitely can't go back to reading them, though.

Say what you will about the HP books, they did a great job of growing up along with the reader

The first couple of books are definitely run-of-the-mill YA fantasy, but by the 4th book things really start to become more mature and dramatic

I actually took a class in "children's literatute" in College, and one of the assignments was to read the first book. I remember after reading it and the instructor was leading a discussion about it and the series in general, and this is kinda what ended up getting me into the HP books. The instructor was kinda hot too (in a she's like 10-15 years older than me kinda way but still kinda hot)

Depends on your point of view. If you've grown up & had kids of your own, its pretty hard to accept the way the Dursleys treat Harry & get away with it for the entire series.

Not to mention all the plotholes & logical inconsistencies.

the theory is they're horrible people because of the piece of Voldemort's soul in him

and idk how good child protection was in 90s England

Doesnt he just stay with Ron after the 2nd year though?

No. He has to go back to the Dursleys every single year, even after Voldemort has taken his blood, which would logically remove the 'blood protection' of Lily's sacrifice (and hence, Harry's supposed need to live with Petunia).
