Well?

Well?

Oh, you're black in both cases.

U.S.A. was never that special for me. I don't care about the shit Americans care about. Send me to Africa as long as I'm not out of place and awkward.

I've kinda been both.

I was born in the US, but my parents are from east Africa, and because of that, I've often been regarded as "African" by those who found out regardless of their race.

and when I went to visit my parents' homeland, I was seen as a westerner or "muzungu".

but I'd be fine with either.

It's so wild how people want others to never feel at home. But there are also good people who will try to make anyone in their area feel as comfortable and welcomed as possible. Those are the diamonds.

it's been pretty cool, tbh.

where I live, a lot of people are immigrants, first-generation Americans, or mixed with different ethnicities, so even if you're "different", a bunch of others are too or are close to someone who is, so it was never an issue.

but I've had people talk to me like I might not understand some stuff African-Americans might experience and/or the history before

Ah, that's what's up. Latter is not what's up. Shit I can't understand. I've got it for being a mexican-lite but I have a feeling it's not the same thing.
