back in the Brawl speculation days, a guy named FatManOnIce launched a personal campaign to spread as much awareness about Geno as possible. He even set up a petition that he claimed he would hand deliver to Nintendo of Japan (although I don't know what came of that).

Mallow loves Frogfucious. That makes it a non-issue. Going on an adventure with Mario doesn't mean Mallow completely ditches his frog fam.

Mallow doesnt even go back to see Frogfucious in the credits scenes. Once he learns about his cloud family he is singularly interested in that.

There is dialogue if you go back and talk to Frogfucious after beating Nimbus Land where he congratulates Mallow on being a cloud prince >_> But that's it.

You can say it's up to interpretation but I believe most players would assume Mallow still visits his grandfather in Tadpole Pond.

Some people are iffy on Paper Jam and Partners in Time, but you absolutely should play the first one. It even has a recent 3DS remake.

Realistic explanation and timeline of Geno support

Back in the mid 90s, he was fresh in people's minds. SMRPG was a lot of people's first real RPG, so they had a soft spot for him since he was a cool character.

Smash 64 was very rudimentary, so no one was expecting anything but the biggest characters so no one thought about him.
But then Melee released and it opened the doors to more obscure characters. And even then, around the time Melee released, he was still only like 5 years old.

By the time Brawl had come out, SMRPG was a little over a decade old, but during that span, Geno received cameo in Superstar Saga, which gave some hope for fans that he might pop up again someday.
when Brawl finally released, and we got third party reps for the first time ever, that opened the floodgates for a lot of character requests, and suddenly there was nothing holding Geno back in theory.

Sakurai then fanned the flames when he mentioned offhand somewhere that he likes Geno as a character, and wished he could have put him in Brawl.

By this point though, we were in the 2010s and SMRPG was a distant memory. But that said, like many people are saying, Geno basically became a meme request, because it seemed so implausible. But then we got a costume in Smash 4, in 2014.

At this point, in current-day, like people said he now just remains one of the big three characters that everyone thought would never happen (Ridley, K. Rool where big "never" characters). But people cling to hope because there's been these tiny little teases of him for over 2 decades. some people think that if he were to appear in Smash, maybe we would finally see a sequel to SMRPG. some people just vividly remember him being a cool character from when they were a kid.

But basically, the fact that people can't have him, is what fuels them to want him.

Superstar Saga -> Partners in Time -> Bowser's Inside Story form a loose trilogy. Paper Jam is a crossover with Paper Mario. And there's also Dream Team which I hear is alright.

Partners In Time has the least to do with the overarching story of the saga but it's a serviceable game if you like the first one.

I thought it was unremarkable but I especially didn't like Mallow's story because he's obsessed with finding his real parents at the expense of the frog and that's just played straight, there's no lesson about your family being who raised you or whatever.

This is why people want Geno and not Mallow. Mallow is the worst.

They arent fucking good enough are you kidding? You think a couple dozen NES and SNES games are enough? When Nintendo has both of those consoles. Plus the 64, GC, Wii and Wii U. Hell they also have Gameboy, DS and 3DS titles abound. Thats 8 consoles worth of titles they have

But thanks though Nintendo for Balloon Fight we are eternally grateful dont get confused like IIm saying There are no good NES OR SNES games available. But you really have to be thick to not see how much theyre leaving on the table and be okay with that. Im literally saying they could charge us piecemeal for them and they would be better than not having them at all.
