And send it to his administration instead. How will the Trump defense force defend this, considering covering up Coronavirus data is supposedly why China is at fault for Trump fucking everything up?

They would have to deny it. You see, what youre saying, though factual, is a deviation from the image they have of the world in their heads. So they must adamantly deny it.

He can say it, but it doesn't have any real authority around it.

He doesn't see it that way. When Trump refers to his administration he basically means his inner circle of bobbleheads.

Right? Hospitals can send that shit to the CDC if they want

This is not the first time Trump tried to act like he had power of someone/something when he really didn't... PLUS! The states. When he tried to threaten states with national guard/military order. Uhhhhhh you can't do that without the state asking first, sir. Trump is A Dumbass.

"Government employees" fall into two distinct types.

There are the elected officials and the political appointees they assign. Depending on how much the president wants to politicize things, these can function similar to the 2nd group, or as Trump has shown, work at odds w/ the very mission of that organization to further the agenda of the president. Like how Trump keeps appointing people to head the EPA that have worked their whole careers against the EPA.

And then there are the career employees, middle class workers that aren't political and just do the job assigned to them regardless of who's in office, usually with advanced degrees and/or experience in relevant fields. For example in the CDC, it's presumably a bunch of people w/ medical and microbial expertise.

Basically, the 2nd group is trying to collect accurate data and inform the public.
Trump doesn't like that, because it's going to be bad news and make him look bad.
So he's attempting to circumvent the information going to those career employees, so they can't do thier jobs and America suffers for it, so that he can (in his calculations) look better.

From the article:

"The Trump administration ordered hospitals to bypass the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and send all COVID-19 patient information to a central database in Washington, starting Wednesday, according to a Health and Human Services document updated July 10.

Michael Caputo, HHS assistant secretary for public affairs, said in a statement the new coronavirus data collection system would be faster, and the CDC has a one-week lag in reporting hospital data."

Today, the CDC still provides data from only 85 percent of hospitals; the Presidents COVID response requires 100 percent to report.

"The CDC, an operating division of HHS, will certainly participate in this streamlined all-of-government response. They will simply no longer control it."

"Weve merely streamlined data collection for hospitals on the front lines," he stressed. "No one is taking access or data away from CDC."

I'm not seeing a problem here.

I'm confused. Is the data being restricted from the CDC or is it "streamlined" to the white house first?

If it's being restricted then I'm terrified, if it's being "streamlined" then that's ok I guess.

I sure as hell don't trust the Trump administration given Trump's openness on wanting to slow down testing to stop making him look bad.

Well the immediate concern is there is zero information about who controls this new database, how it is going to collect the 15% of data the CDC isn't currently capturing and how it is somehow going to be faster than the existing process.

Depending on the information being submitted there are also possible HIPPA concerns as well. There are very tight regulations regarding who can receive medical information, how it is transmitted and stored.

I feel like if I knew the technical details I could figure this out for sure, but the article is very vague and naturally I can only fear the worst.
