Seems like they're pretty stuck in a routine of

  • Third person Ubisoft open world game in a new setting
  • First person Ubisoft open world game in a new setting
  • Games as a Service multiplayer shooter
  • Just Dance
They're experimenting with Watch Dogs at least. Although I can't help but wonder if that's primarily because WD2 didn't sell well at launch. Gods and Monsters is a thing that disappeared but that just looks like a BOTW copycat so far.

It's just hard to get excited over Ubisoft in general I think. They've got variety in concepts but not really with gameplay.

The only Ubi games I really keep up with are Assassins Creed and Far Cry, but both series seem to have mostly abandoned this years ago despite it being a major part of them before

Their PC ports are.

Apparently the new Watch Dogs can barely maintain 30 fps on a 2080ti or something.

They've been in a rut for 2 gens then if we're going by their formulaic approach to games.

Aren't they supposed to be making a new Rayman game soon?

I don't know. People thought they were making a Splinter Cell and they were wrong.

They're digging themselves out of a rut right now. The rut was circa Farcry 3/4, Watch Dogs, whatever Assassins Creeds were out then. They've managed to shake up their formula a bit but it looks like it's still a work in progress. They went from making 7/10 games to 8/10 games. But they still don't feel like they're worth more than $30.

It's funny thinking back to Ubisoft at the end of last gen where people thought Watch Dogs was like a big next gen thing that had a lot of hype. Of course that didn't live up to it so at least Ubisoft don't do that sort of shit anymore.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint was their last big game and it was a pretty big disaster.

They have a problem with making too many similar games. I can only play so many open world games. I take a break from Ubi games due to this. Their open world obsession has me worried about Beyond Good and Evil 2.

The Ubisoft formula is still as prevalent as ever, with some tweaks here & there with every new installment. But their fans seem to love it so I don't see why they should take unnecessary risks.

Well, that's what happens when you make the same game over and over, and over, and over again.
