A Storm of Swords came out a year and a half after A Clash of Kings and it's the longest book in the series. The Winds of Winter had better be over 6000 pages at this point.

A Game of Thrones - August 1996
A Clash of Kings - February 1999
A Storm of Swords - November 2000
A Feast for Crows - November 2005
A Dance with Dragons - July 2011

He was on such a pace at the beginning... at least we learned about the Mereenese Knot and how GRRM decided not to include a time skip while writing A Feast for Crows and DWD... I wonder what his excuse is going to be for Winds of Winter?

I dunno, but the time skip definitely wasn't the reason he didn't know how to progress the story.

You know what I think might happen? The Winds of Winter will come out, maybe next year, and then the final book will only take a couple of more years. 2023. I mean, there's no reason it might not happen. He might suddenly write really quickly, and use ideas from the 6th book, and release it fairly soon.

Why not?

I am pretty confident that the Wise Man's Fear sequel is finished and is being purposefully delayed until a Kingkiller show/movie is released. I thought the author had all 3 books written (rough draft) before the first one was even released.

Because he doesnt think itll be finished in 2021. Id wager at least another five, but I dont think its actually getting finished.

It'll always be amazing to me how season 8 just fucking killed the show. It was a cultural phenomenon for years, and then bam, all interest and passion just dies in 6 episodes.

The show ended. Passion naturally dies down at that point. My Dad and I are rewatching the series right now, actually. We're noticing a lot of hints and foreshadowing about Daenerys and her tendency to do violent, impulsive things that we hadn't taken stock of before. The show comes out better when you watch from the beginning while knowing the end.

Dany's character in the books and the show has always walked the line between the Mad King Aerys (her dad) and the noble Prince Rhaegar (her brother), with the whole "flip of the coin" to determine whether a Targ is good or insane being mentioned all the time. She always questions her own actions in the books and has a tremendous fear of turning out like her dad, it is central to her character arc. I refuse to give the show runners credit for that lol
