Im sure people have made topics before about this so I guess Im venting since I had an argument with someone at work about this. Im in Georgia so... yea... shocker people think like that.

Sure you can do initial things to help like limit the amount of students per teacher and have day classes and night classes. (If you even have the teachers to do this since many dont want to come back)

After that though... what else can you do? Make kids wear masks? Lol good luck with that. It will be very hard to enforce that. Plus, if adults arent wearing masks because of reasons how can you expect kids to do the same? Plus, some Parents get all upset about how their kid has to wear a mask. They will tell kids to flat out not wear masks. It will get ugly.

Also, 6 feet rule? No way in hell will you be able to enforce that. Adults cant follow that rule. Kids sure wont.

Also, are we sure teachers will come back? There isnt enough pay to justify risking yourself in a high risk environment. Plus, I know many teachers are older with health issues. They cant come back to teach kids and risk their lives since their are at a much higher risk.

It just doesnt make sense. No way it can go well. Then Trump is threatening to cut already embarrassing low school funds for not reopening. Its just... wow...

I get you. At the same time I'm not understanding what we're supposed to do if school is closed. Some kids have terrible home lives.

My school is scheduled to open later than normal (after Labor Day) due to construction. I think that will benefit us because we will see how screwed everyone else is first.

Schools always open after Labor Day in many states.

Wearing masks is very effective. Most people at protests wore them and you saw how low the numbers were. Combine that with the fact that scientists have confirmed kids are super resistant to the virus and its going to be fine.

Schoolchildren and their 20s or 30s parents have the lowest rate of serious infections.
That weekend at grandmas is going to suck, though.

Some studies have speculated that children are less susceptible to the effects of coronavirus.

They are still potential carriers. They will bring it home and infect their vulnerable family members.

You also realize that there are tons of adult staff at schools, right? What do you think happens when half of the teachers contract coronavirus and can't come in to work? You're not going to have substitutes willing to risk that for $10/hr.

I'm aware, but none in my area, so we can observe and adjust based on local reactions.

I mean, for my job I have to work with the public every day. Mostly adults. I would much rather work with kids who are less susceptible than adults who arent. Ill take that substitute teacher spot.

It's really not when you're facing the prospect of being surrounded by a hundred superspreaders for eight hours a day.
