I mean it sucks don't get me wrong here now. But I don't think it's bad enough that it should be deleted from the game and the whoever designed it should suffer in eternal shame.
But it could be worse. The run back is easy. If saves you progress even when you die.
The boss would be no where near as hated if the arms didn't sweep you back. If you just fell over rather than being flung and gravitated towards the nearest pit it'd be good.

I love the boss conceptually. I love that the actual Witch of Izalith is just some bug with 1hp

Tbh deleting all of Izalith from the game would probably be a strict improvement. The Bed of Chaos is just the final punchline to what feels like a bad joke. I also think New Londo sucks ass, but I'm not sure if that's universally hated. I also think the Catacombs is one of the lamest levels in the game. For me, the game straight nose dives after Anor Londo. Dukes Archives is alright, but I never thought the events were very engaging/ interesting.

That being said, if you stick the Bed of Chaos at the end of a better level, I don't I'd mind it as much.

I didn't hate Lost Izalith nearly as much when I did another run yesterday. It's disappointing that's for sure because it's basically unfinished but the aesthetic and visual design is still amazing. It really needed better enemies, better placement of enemies, better item placement etc etc. But it takes like 5 minutes to run through if you just want to skip everything. The only thing noteworthy is Siegmeyer's questline, Kirk and a pyromancy.

I think Demon Ruins is worse. Gimmick boss, reskin boss and shit boss. And placement of enemies is even worse. Gank of Capra demons? Who thought that'd be a good idea?

Deleting everything after Anor Londo aside from the Gwyn fight and the DLC would be an improvement tbh.

Duke's Archive and New Londo Ruins are pretty damn good. I also think the Crystal Caves is fine even though I don't like it too much. I think only Demon Ruins and maybe Tomb of the Giants that are actually bad. Lost Izalith is kind of just empty.

I'm so glad that the chaos servant shortcut exists. I haven't fought Demon Firesage and Centipede Demon in a very long time

The thing that most people seemingly miss is that the wooden arms and those of the fiery spirit operate on independent timers. The time for either attack sequence is different as well. As a result all you really have to do is wait until the wooden arms and spirit arms do an overlapping attack at the same time, then book it to the actual goal. That's it.

The first two bits of the fight can be largely skipped by using a bow and arrows. This means the fight is actually super simple and easy, but only once each part has been broken down accordingly.

Izalith is just bland and devoid of level design other than the pit maze with the chaos tentacle bugs. The eye rape from whatever God forsaken filter FromSoft used doesn't help either.

Bed of Chaos is just the poster child of Dark Souls jank.
