Really want RE3make but I'm waiting for a major price drop. In the mean time, I was thinking about trying my hand at REmake hard (and maybe going for a grenade launcher speedrun later on Jill Normal).

How much harder is it than normal?

Which do you think is easier? Jill for the item slots?

Yeah, the grenade launcher is op, the two extra slots help as well, lockpick saves you time, I think with Jill you can skip plant 42

It's not that much harder than normal. There's less ammo obviously and healing items, but not that much. If you've already finished the game on normal, you kinda have an idea what enemies to skip and what to kill, so ammo shouldn't be really a problem.

You find less handgun ammo early in the game, so that might cause some issues though, and you might have to rely on your shotgun a bit.

Well I just beat Jill Normal in 2:42:10 using this guide:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gamecube/535836-resident-evil/faqs/17019

First try. That's a really good guide lol. I spent a lot of extra time saving (9 ink ribbons used) and gathering herbs, coupled with a few mistakes.

Anyway, now I have some serious crutches I can rely on if it comes to that <_<

Probably going to do a Very Easy Knife Only Chris run. That should get me my "save nobody with Chris" achievement as well >_>

After that I'll probably play Hard mode, and use the super weapons if I get desperate to salvage a playthrough. Hopefully I'll learn enough to do a Real Survival playthrough after. I imagine managing ink ribbons is a total pain. Either that or it's best just to leave/use a few at every type writer/item box location.

Are me and you going through the RE series at the same time? Because I think I've posted in some of your threads before with you going through the series.

I'm doing the same exact thing lol. I just finished 0 after doing 1-4. I'm about to try to do code veronica and then 5-7. And then I'll try doing challenges like this one.

The easiest way to think about it is, you really dont have to kill or fight anything but bosses. The hardest gutcheck of the game that gets speed runners to quit is the murder hallway. If youre ever scared of the hunters. Take like the extra two minutes to get the medal from the bee room and get the magnum. One shot puts them down iirc. The only hunters you gotta worry about are the ones by the save room in the stairway. Any other hunter you can run past by

Kinda. I never played survival horror before so I decided to give REmake after seeing the RE:Village trailer. I've only played REmake, RE0, and RE2make (and I made topics about those). Truth is I really want to play RE3make, but I usually don't pay more than $30 for a game (working on my PhD so I'm still a student smh). So I need to hold out until there's a good opportunity to buy it for at least as low as $30 lol.

I'm more hyped to do challenge runs for RE2make tbh, but I figured I'd try to go back to REmake to see what I could do. Right now I'm thinking the biggest roadblock will be real survival. You can cheese invisible enemy mode by playing on Very Easy, and now I unlocked the infinite rocket launcher so there shouldn't be too much issue beating the game if I get desperate lol. And I can always sacrifice Barry/Rebecca to skip the last boss fight <_<

Tbh this speedrun really opened my eyes as to how much you can just ignore when it comes to beating this game. I have a feeling I'm going to use a lot of the same tricks/routes as I used for the 3 hour normal run, aside from grabbing the wind crest for the magnum (unless I sacrifice Barry again lol, but I think I'll save that trick for Real Survival) and grabbing the MO discs for more endings.

As someone that has R3make and played it, it's honestly not worth the price. It's pretty short, and nothing much new to offer that RE2make doesn't. RE2 has the better setting and extras and story and just about everything is better really.

I just finished RE0 and not gonna lie I was enjoying most of the game until it kind of just ended abruptly like that with no real payoff.

That's the general vibe I hear. However the itch is strong lol. And the trade off of defense items for dodge sounds pretty fun to me, ngl.

And RE0 is just kinda weird in general. Like the whole story with the leeches, and it doesn't really lead up to 1 at all imo. I actually played that one on Easy and it kinda has an insane amount of ammo in that mode. Like there are 200 handgun rounds in the train alone. I think normal gives around 40 lmao.

Edit: like all the "prequel" parts are basically Birkin and Wesker plotting while looking at camera footage. And the Bravo team characters are only there as cameos lol.

In the meantime I might be RE2 on N64 or on psp for kicks. People say it's great still.

Haha, that's pretty funny. I would have tried it had I known Tyrant 1 gets one shot by Barry's gun and there's no Tyrant 2.

Funny thing actually: in my three playthroughs I never took down Yawn in the first fight lol. I don't have the achievement for it. I'll get it next time now that I know Richard is a timed thing (poor guy) and you get the assault shotgun for your trouble as Jill.

Playing classic controls like a man. That's what I like to see. :0

I did knife only trophy on hard mode. Can't remember if you can use defense item's for the trophy. If not you have to run in circles and take advantage of the autoaim. The dog will only one hit Ko you if you are low on health. Spam the buttons to break free.

You can't lol. I'm playing on very easy tbh <_< I gotta respect doing this on hard with little healing.

It's going a lot like the speedrun tbh, which makes sense since the routes are really good about avoiding enemies. I know there's a lot less enemies in general which really helps. For instance, there's only one dog when you blow the whistle of very easy and it so took me 4 tries. Supposedly crimson head in the grave is the hardest boss knife only.

VERY narrowly managed to beat the plant 42 with Rebecca on the V JOLT. Makes me feel kinda guilty I'll be sacrificing her later, especially the the achievement of her helping <_<

But that boss was probably mostly difficult because of trial and error. Basically you need to knife all the tentacles one by one, so you kinda need to guess where you need to stand to swipe at each one while they're beating you up and throwing acid at you.

But that's probably the last "real" boss I fight until Tyrant, which is kinda a relief. I don't think I've killed any enemies aside from 42, graveyard crimson, and the dog for the imitation key. I'll need to kill at least the zombie and the bug on the way to the nitro fuel deposit.

edit: just remembered I need to kill yawn lol. So it's >get Yawn medal >get medal from hole > get battery > caves, and >get jewelry box > get deer jewel > get metal object along the way. Then after caves it's kill Lisa and labs.

Just finished, a little less than 4 hours. Tbh Tyrant1 was probably the easiest enemy to kill in the game lol. On Very Easy I had 57 total ink ribbons collected without visiting a single optional room. Kinda wild.

Next is up are probably Hard play throughs. I think I'll save the other sacrifice Barry/Rebecca ending for Real Survival with Jill and Very Easy Invisible Enemy with Chris.

Edit: just remembered i need to do a no save run. That'll just be the Jill speedrun on Very Easy lol. Biggest issues should be boulders and Lisa.

What's the easiest way to do Nook and Cranny? Spam rockets with Jill on Normal? Or Hard because there are fewer items?

I'd probably speed through early mansion then use rockets to kill any hunters in my way. That way I won't have to worry about the super zombie while I collect stuff, and many zombies will despawn.

For anybody who's still interested I did my no save run yesterday and my first Hard Jill run today.

SPOILER POST

I gotta say that Hard is stingy as hell, especially at the beginning. Ngl, I had to rely on the Samurai Edge for a bit to get by <_< Once I got the assault shotgun though I almost never used it (totally worth saving Richard for though). By the end I had a decent supply of green herbs, but ammo was a little tight. Had plenty of defense items though, like five battery packs and a couple daggers by the end since I got 100% items. I guess I used too much ammo and didn't take advantage of my defense items or something.

To my surprise though, managing crimsons isn't too bad. There aren't more than like five zombies near each mansion item box you want to kill, and even then if you're better than me you can probably leave some of them alive for a while. But yeah, doing the speedrun first helped a lot in terms of planning meaningful outings and saves. I used 14 total, with 10 to spare.

Generally, the first mansion area was the most difficult area by far, especially with that annoying ass super zombie running around (that kinda reminds me of Mr. X lol). Luckily he's really easy to dodge, but he still does a lot of damage when he gets Jill. But it's easy to manage things in residence since there are maybe one or two enemies that are actually worth killing, and you can skip Plant 42 with V Jolt. And most of the Hunters in caves can be dealt with easily. Mansion return has you deal with a handful of hunters and kill Yawn, neither of which are difficult to do with the shotgun assuming you have some ammo. It's also helpful you know you only really need to kill 4 zombies and a chimera in the last area before Tyrant.

The second Tyrant fight though took way more punishment than I expected though. I was pumping that guy like crazy with magnum rounds and flame grenades lol. If I didn't want to farm endings, I would have just let Barry get killed by Lisa to avoid this fight. In my final run (which will be a Real Survival run) I'll for sure be killing Barry/Rebecca to avoid the last boss.

So it's Chris Hard > Real Survival (probably Jill). With Chris I think I'll still save Richard, and try to make up for the extra Plant 42 health with the self defense gun. I can save right before so I can probably optimize a bit for ammo consumption.

Some planning for my final run for a while (last achievement): Jill Real Survival.

Chose Jill for a few reasons: 1) She has two extra slots, which will come in handy when picking up an extra herb, 2) She can completely skip Plant 42 with the V Jolt puzzle, 3) She gets the lockpick simplifying how I run through the early game and 4) She gets Barry's 44 Magnum to one shot Tyrant 1. Not gonna bother with the MO discs and I'm definitely gonna kill Barry to get the easiest ending. Not needing ammo for Tyrant 2 really loosens things up, and will allow me to use the magnum ammo as I get it, more or less. In general I doubt I'll be taking more than one healing item to a new spot, particularly in places like Residence or Caves which have a couple herbs and where I doubt I'll take any damage. The game gives you enough healing items each time you enter a new area anyway, and it's very easy to take little to no damage for basically the rest of the game once you get past crimson head prototype. And tbh, most of the damage I took in my Hard Jill run was from Forest (One Dangerous Zombie), which I don't think is in Real Survival.

I did consider Chris for the following reasons: He has more health and will be able to take more hits in the early game and 2) he gets 3 free heals from Rebecca after you deal with Richard. But frankly, by the time I actually have the armor key, I am kinda past where I would really appreciate those heals. Plus I need to deal with Plant 42 the old fashioned way and use a lot of shotgun ammo.

The hard part is going to be the first three keys with the Mansion. There's a lot of zombies around, Jill is weak, and herbs and handgun ammo are pretty scarce, as are defensive items. However, once I get the sword key and visit the east wing for the dog whistle, chemical, and the shotgun (using Barry save), along with the herbs near the chemical, I'll probably be past the worst of it, especially since I don't need to bother with the blue gem. I'll need to be conservative with shells though, since I'll probably want to save Richard for the Assault shotgun which should lead to a net gain in shotgun ammo (plus the extra damage). And that will leave me with more than enough to kill prototype. At this point, I'll be about to get the colt python, and my shotgun will basically be my go to zombie weapon for zombies I want to kill/put down.

In Residence I won't shoot anything aside from maybe a single zombie, but it seems easier just to lure that one into the bathroom where it gets stuck. I'll be taking the magnum with me because it'll be convenient to do so, and I'll want it to deal with the hunters near the east store room, but I'll be leaving my shotgun and handgun behind. I might leave the self defense pistol behind in Residence, but if I have extra space, I'll use it to kill the first Hunter instead.

When I get back to the mansion, I'll head down the hole for the medal and battery, as well as 12 shotgun shells and 6 magnum rounds, along with some herbs. Even if I'm somehow out of ammo, that will give me enough to kill Yawn for good, and essentially end my ammo worries for the rest of the game.

Caves and labs are probably where I'll try to use the grenade launcher. If I can lug the acid/fire rounds, I can deal with black tiger and the hunters pretty effectively. In fact, I can probably leave my shotgun at the mansion while I go down there, so I should have plenty of space. After that, I can use the leftover flame rounds to clear out some zombies in labs for the nitro walk (I should have 4), and just use Barry's magnum/the shotgun for everything else I want to kill.

I will say this would be significantly more difficult if I chose to fight Tyrant 2. However, I just want to keep things as doable as possible since I don't have the infinite pistol or rockets to fall back on.

With that said, I've had a lot of fun with this game, and really feel like I know a lot about it now. After a while I'll move on to doing all the extra challenges with RE2make to get all the unlocks as well.

And that's that, the last achievement. Frankly, Real Survival mode is not much more difficult than Hard mode at all. I was thinking about doing a run with Chris, but after realizing it's basically the same as Real Survival except a bit more menuing and the door knob never breaks. There's no real reason to carry saves around, you really only need one or two weapons in an area, and there's healing items in new areas so you only need to take one just in case you get hit along the way. Plus, Forest not being around and the fact that the doorknob never breaks are HUGE helps. I also killed like 8-10 zombies, and didn't have any ammo issues. By the end I had 16 magnum rounds left, ~25 shotgun shells, ~70 handgun bullets, and of course the 6 fire grenades in the last save room. So I easily could have let Barry live and not skip the final boss with what I had left... but I was getting a little tired/bored in the last hour or two so I just wanted to get it done a little faster. Ended with just under 4 hours (like 3:54 I think).

I had way more fun doing these runs than I expected. If anybody is planning to go for the achievements, recommendation is to start by doing the <3 hour run. It helps so much in knowing what areas of the game you actually need to visit, what items really matter, and what tasks to group together for efficient trips. It's probably while Real Survivor wasn't much of an adjustment; I was already in the habit of only picking up items as I needed them, and only picking up/depositing extra resources when it was on the way.

The next time I pick this game up, I'll probably do Chris in Real Survival. But I know if I did it now I probably wouldn't enjoy it that much, so I'll leave that little challenge for future me (and maybe go for the good ending).
