Welcome to the King of Fighters 2020 (NOT MERCS) Simulated Character Battle Tournament!

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

Seems like this guy would lose to Evangeline, let alone Godzilla.

Ghaleon was powerful enough to easily subjugate dragons that were near-Godlike in power. He is a true master of magic.

He was also able to resist and rebel against a Godlike entity that was pretty much all powerful and all knowing.

Ghaleon is a legitimate badass and extremely powerful spellcaster. He'd beat a big monster like Godzilla without breaking a sweat.

Ghaleon also moves two or three times per turn, which indicates that he's much faster than the party.

I don't know, I had Godzilla pegged as much tougher than I'm finding, but I guess it depends on which version we're using.

Ghaleon's ability to teleport is key here, he can use it to dodge atomic breath and keep Godzilla at a distance. And he has an instant death spell. Why is this even a debate?

I wouldn't necessarily take instant death spells against Godzilla, depending on how tough his hide is. Avada Kedavra is an instant death spell but that gets deflected by statues.

I feel like the instant death spell is the only thing Godzilla might need to be afraid of here as long as we're not randomly sticking him with a weaker version, more details on that would help. what form does the spell take, and is it the kind that does 999999999 damage or the kind that just kills outright

I mean based on Eternal lore Doomguy would probably take it. Though I guess it would be how you would compare Godzilla against the Icon of Sin which would be a hype fight in itself.

I don't buy instant death working on Godzilla (so many RPG bosses are immune to instant death that I'm skeptical by default unless it has actual plot showings). Ghaleon killing "near-Godlike" dragons is nice but like...every random 3/day jrpg character does that too?

Speed, teleportation, and multi-casting are all nice, but I don't have a good idea of the power level of the Lunar world and how impressed I should be at him being the toughest boss of the game.

Sorting things out here.

I don't know the scope of these dragons Ghaleon kills, nor do I know the scope of his instant death spell (I flipped through a video of the fight from Silver Star Story and I couldn't find it). Godzilla has range and size, but Ghaleon has mobility and also range.

If Ghaleon takes a shot of Atomic Breath, can he tank it with his barrier? I don't know, maybe? I'm inclined to believe he can, but it would still mess him up a bit.

Personality might be the key here. Godzilla is hard to miss from wherever in the "arena" Ghaleon is in. Ghaleon strikes me as very overconfident in general, the type who automatically assumes he's going to win (after all, he's the Magic Emperor, who can stand against him?). He probably looks at Godzilla and thinks he's just another dragon. Maybe, in true RPG villain mode, he doesn't attack right away, preferring to give the "poor monster" a sense of hope.

Then he gets vaporized by Atomic Breath.

The only thing that really seems impressive is the "instant death" spell, but those always come off very gameplay-mechanicy in RPGs, whether from being likely to miss, or not working on tougher enemies, or so on, so unless Ghaleon has actual feats of just using it instantly in every single confrontation, it doesn't impress much. Godzilla just seems way too tanky for anything else he has.
