Do you really believe that what is happening to this kid right now is going to help out in any way shape or form?

The kid should receive discipline yes, from their parents. Publically shaming, arresting them and the current lynch mob is only going to make things much worse.

The internet is full of people like this kid because theyre never held accountable with serious consequences attached. Getting yelled at by your parent doesnt do anything but getting arrested? Yeah thatll make him think. If hes smart hell wise up and learn from his mistake.

He is literally 12, I love how you toss around "well adjusted" about someone going through puberty. Brain chemistry is altered, hormone levels are all over the place. Having said that, do you think what is happening now: arresting the kid and making a huge spectacle out of it, is going to make him more "well adjusted", or less?

What this kid did was not "saying dumb shit." It was targeted and racially motivated harassment.

In what way is this a "big spectacle"? He's not getting dragged through the streets having people yell "Shame!" at him. Nor is he being tried and prosecuted; he was arrested and hopefully learned his lesson from that experience.

Also regarding it being just "some dumb comments"; I implore you to actually look at Zaha's Twitter as it wasn't limited to the screenshot in the article in the OP.

If it was just an insult, racist or not, I'd say unfair, but the implied threat of violence should definitely be taken seriously. I don't know if "taken seriously" should result in a pre-teen being actually arrested over a very stern house visit from police, but eh, I guess it's not like a pre-teen would be incapable of harming someone if they actually tired.

This kid got pretty much bullied for this stunt and I just don't think the same should happen to a 12 yr in the future for probably not realizing what he's actually saying.

Kids are pretty inpressionable and vulnerable to peer pressure. The internet can make that peer pressure a near constant

A kid that age with good parents can still do stupid shit.

The kid definitely needs some consequences but uh...I dunno if arresting him is a good move. Seems a little extreme.

If hes already resentful enough at 12 to make racist threats over the internet then he wasnt naturally going to become less resentful. Example, those 4chan kids you referenced earlier are racist s*** talking adults today because nobody arrested them and held them accountable at 12.

Arresting him an not charging him is not too extreme. It should teach him a lesson, one that he needs to learn

First off, before I address that bolded comment, I never said he was resentful. It looked like the kid's posts were just racist memes. He literally said 'I'm gonna show up dressed as a ghost' as one of his comments. He wasn't fucking serious. He is just an idiot kid. One who will resent the dude growing up and likely go in the wrong direction because now he's the 'racist' kid. News will travel, and that'll be what he's known as for the rest of his life.

Imagine the worst thing you ever said. Now imagine someone taking that and branding you with it for life. Would you resent shit because of it?

As for the bold comment: it NEVER works. Look at the Scared Straight program. It NEVER worked. It solved nothing. Why would this be any different?
