How does this help Biden win? I'm down with democrats honestly don't care, I have sadly come to realize that's politics in a nutshell, but how does this help anyone win an election?

We all take calculated risks in life. We all get in our cars every day (or take the bus) and there's always that SLIGHT chance we could die in a car crash.

At this stage of the game, it's time to start weighing the options against each other and make a call. We need to consider living with the risk of the virus.

90 people die in this country from car accidents. At the peak we were over 2000 deaths from covid. If 2000 people were dying every day in car accidents, things would be changing, people wouldn't be saying we just need to live with it.

So COVID isn't a thing anymore and we can act like there's no risk of infection or community spread?

Sounds like a terrible argument.

Then why is the President refusing to wear a mask or issue a national mandate.

I mean, since you said we're taking it seriously, those would be steps to show that you're treating it seriously. Why is he still politicizing a pandemic to garner support from his base?

I heard they're coming up with some plans to get people back safely including:

  • Everyone wearing a mask at all times
  • Reorganizing rooms so that people can distance
  • High tech air filtration systems that filter fresh air into the building, stale air out and it goes through a series of UV lights during this time to kill off any virus that might have been lingering in the air

Going to have to leave your basements eventually boys better get with the "new normal"

1. You can "require" masks all you want, at the end of the day you're dealing with children and you'll never get 100% compliance. I can't see schools seriously disciplining over masks either cause parents and lawyers will have a field day

2. MAYBE in nice well funded districts, but covid has destroyed city budgets and I'm sure we can both guess where some of the cuts were made. Even still my classes are capped out at 32 students per room, even if you cut that in half you still wouldn't be able to distance kids 6 feet apart (which probably isn't even enough space, but it's the standard that gets thrown around).

3. Similar to #2 but even more doubtful. No way these districts are going to fit every room with a device that will be obsolete eventually and isn't even proven to work to begin with.

What's going to happen is what my district is talking about. They mandate masks (but then can't enforce), put more handwashing stations around schools (aka sanatizer stuck to hallways), and then sanatize over night. I think the misconception people have is teachers want to do remote learning cause it's easier and we're lazy, that isn't the case. It's waaaay easier for me to teach in person, but I'm not about exposing the kids and myself to a serious virus just because people want their babysitters back.

So what do you propose then? I see a lot of bitching but not a lot of problem solving in this post.

There's no damn solution that's why.

Getting the kids to school is the first problem, before the kids even sit down in a class.

Explaining why the things you talked about won't work equates to bitching? Ok. To answer your question though, if we are trying to implement the safest education possible I'd say we continue remote learning, mandate free internet access to low income homes, and ensure that textbook materials are accessible online. I already know you'll bring up that costs too much, but you asked about solutions for education not for the economy. If I'm trying to solve economic issues surrounding education then the plan would be go back to in person school, shut up about covid, and be good little worker bees

Complete bs, you had republicans and pundits saying the exact same shit less than a month after this first became a problem. Rather than take actual measures to contain and slow the spread it has rampaged across the US. The call that still needs to be made is to actually take covid 19 seriously rather than pretend it is the new normal.

Ok, and living with kids trapped in their basement may result in them getting involved with drugs, becoming obese, and mental health issues being unable to see friends. Also their parents becoming more poor since they're unable to both work jobs to watch them; meaning they potentially lose their homes.....

Maybe we're at the point where the older folks need to limit their time out and about.

So kids are trapped in a basement, unable to see peers, yet are able to get their hands on drugs...

I am not a covid denier and I value lives. I also think that the media in this country (USA) will stop covering coronavirus after the November election even if this country is still running well enough to have the media.

Democratic mayor in Chicago and the schools are reopening unless hopefully Pritzker is willing to risk his future and keep them closed.

edit. Bidens plan to reopen and even Fox news says Biden will open schools

Something tells me @Caution999 is the type of person who normally hates public school and thinks it's a liberal indoctrination center. Hope I'm wrong but he just seems like that type of person.

Yes education needs to continue, schools need to reopen and people need to get out of their houses but the idea is to do it at the right time. Cases are not dropping and staying down and until that happens it is not safe to open up schools.

If Trump shown any type of care for the safety of the American people over these last four months he would have won a lot of support. And yet time and again he has shown that the economy matters to him more then the american people. That happiness matters more then safety.

Being stuck at home yet somehow having access to ilegal drugs? How does that work exactly?
