How you a fucking mod and can't recognize that everything is about November's election? I soon as Biden wins things will start going back to normal and people won't talk about the virus as much.

I heard this on the radio this morning while I was driving to work, and it was one of the few times where I broke down screaming a swearing and...how to put this diplomatically, wishing direct ill will on Trump. Granted I was already pretty irate starting today, and the 'the Democrats are doing it for political reasons!' tipped me over the edge.

I genuinely cannot take four more months of this horseshit, let alone four more years.

I teach highschool. I'm very confident when I say they are going to send us back in person with the bare minimum protections (enough to make it look like they're doing something) and I'm going to catch covid. It's not even a matter of if or maybe, I know I will contract this virus.

I'm sure those parents would rather put up with their annoying kids than have to see them get sick and possibly die or have permanent damage.

Fact of the matter is this: While children can get the virus, and potentially die from the virus, it's an EXTREMELY low percentage that do. You also have to account for mental health issues. You have to take in account the financial burden of parents potentially having to hire a babysitter since most households have parents who BOTH WORK full time. Either that, or one of the parents has to quit their job potentially. Children being stuck inside all day and not being allowed to go play with their friends outside or invite them over is...not a good thing for their mental well being. It's not natural. They need exercise (we don't need more kids being obese). They need to see their friends. They need to be involved in team activities to keep them out of trouble (drugs, etc).

You have to WEIGH all the options out and come to a conclusion. Stop ignoring the other factors of keeping children inside their basements for almost an entire year.

We all take calculated risks in life. We all get in our cars every day (or take the bus) and there's always that SLIGHT chance we could die in a car crash.

At this stage of the game, it's time to start weighing the options against each other and make a call. We need to consider living with the risk of the virus.

All Trump can do is complaint about democrats and thinks that will make him look better in November. It won't.

It is sad that Trump and the right are paining reasonable health concerns as "political reasons."

The health of Americans, especially children shouldn't be a political issue

Also, the excuse of "Kids don't have much of a risk of dying" doesn't track because 1. they can still transmit the disease and will be going home to their family. 2. school isn't just full of kids. there is also staff, many of whom are older, who will also be going home to families. 3. we've seen early on that potential risks in children can appear later on even if no serious issues arise immediately. much of that is still being researched. We already fucked up by opening too early. stop falling into the same traps and learn from our mistakes.

We need to consider living with the risk of the virus.

part of that consideration: aging family members being exposed to someone who decided to live with the risk of the virus and dying because of that person's choice

which is to say living with the risk of the virus is also living with the knowledge that you're either never seeing your elderly parents again or you're actively harming them

Ok, and living with kids trapped in their basement may result in them getting involved with drugs, becoming obese, and mental health issues being unable to see friends. Also their parents becoming more poor since they're unable to both work jobs to watch them; meaning they potentially lose their homes.....

Maybe we're at the point where the older folks need to limit their time out and about.

permanently quarantining the at-risk population is likely the only viable long-term solution for the US, since our government shit the bed on the two-step solution that europe undertook (shelter in place to keep hospitals from being too overwhelmed, while establishing both testing and contact tracing, then quarantine positives while the rest of the population returns to normalcy) and refused to embark on the early mass-test and trace solution that SK and Taiwan undertook.

also if you think long term shelter in place is going to make you obese, get a home gym

you can buy and sterilize freeweights on craigslist for pennies

K-12 public school kids are not going to do virtual schooling. Many dont have the resources(computers/internet), and many dont give a shit enough to try. Making schools 100% virtual is the final nail in the coffin of the US educational system.

This is genuinely frightening to me. You talk about the economic impact, the social impact, and the health implications (not sure how school breakfast/lunch is going to stop kids from being obese...), but you don't mention anything about how school should be a safe and healthy environment for kids to learn and develop. School is just a tax funded babysitting service to you isn't it?

Fuck off. If you can't handle your kids being around, don't have kids. If you can't afford childcare for your kids, don't have kids. As for the rest of your moronic post, kids can still go outside and play. Parks are still open. They are still communicating with their friends, the internet and cellphones are a thing.
