The sheer amount of pathetic creeps who propagate throughout the hobby, the number of pathetic losers in general, that it's intertwined with internet culture, how immature every other gamer seems to be, how racist, homophobic, sexist, etc., so many gamers are, how most gamers seem to be of lesser intelligence, and so on. Even most video games themselves are fairly anti-intellectual.

This whole situation makes me not want to touch Ultimate for a long time. Ultimates pathetic online already killed my interest since quarantine started but this just seals it.

Ill still go to locals when its safe but not Smash locals. Theres a sizable Darkstalkers scene near me so Ill try that out. Competitive Smash is dead to me.

Way ahead of everyone here, I quit video games in 2015. I've always liked smash, but it is a bit weird how these guys are like 30-35 playing a kids game competitively on CRT tvs in 2020. I understand a lot of these guys made careers out of this, but a lot of these guys never really were the most respectable people, it has always been a sausage fest between players and the sheer epitome of its bro nature makes me think they regularly nut shot each other and slap each others butts. I hope the game dies so these guys can move on with their lives.

Also, I was a member of the Melee community back before Social Media is what it is now (I was 19, I'm 31 now lol). And I always, always, ALWAYS found it weird that we didn't have separate age brackets or just outright restrict people from attending events if they were unsupervised minors. At the same time, when you're actually just going to events to straight up just play and improve, you really aren't focusing on any potential weirdness that anyone else is doing because you spent money travelling and are spending money at a hotel so you're like fuck these weirdos I'm busy. Least thats how it was for me. In retrospect, I guess being a part of a community means you should probably be paying attention to what goes on around you whether you like the people or not. Still, never liked the whole "rooming at some random persons house" deal at all.

But girls are constantly pressured to socialize with the socially inept, get hounded to go those really lame ass parties and ridiculed for not going (literally get called bitches by a bunch of dudes for not wanting to be anywhere near a Smash party lol), and just generally don't get to chill. >_> Its sad.

Also smashers cant dance for shit so that makes them even worse.

Yeah a lot of the talks now are around requiring some kind of parental or guardian presence at events.

I'm active in Melee now when I have time (I'm 29), and a lot of the younger kids are getting real upset by it but honestly dunno why it was never a thing to begin with. Obviously people my age shouldn't want to drink with teenagers, but unfortunately it's the reasonable people that aren't the issue.
