Regardless of whether or not this was intentional (I honestly don't know), as someone who spent a month on a trauma ICU rotation, I can say that people universally underestimate how long it takes to stop when going faster than 50 miles per hour. There's some pretty interesting studies about it.



The TLDR is don't ever try to cross a highway on foot.

Ben Shapiro is not a white supremacist. Hes very vocal about being a Jew and following the Jewish faith, he doesnt like Trump much at all, and calls the Alt-Right a bunch of idiots. He is very critical of the Left, but that is not the same thing as being a white supremacist. Likewise, if a person criticizes the current Senate, it would be silly for us to assume they are black supremacists.

And youve participated in society long enough to have seen people pop up on the curb to go around or passing on a double yellow. I know you have. So whats so inconcievable about some twenty something dumbass getting fed up with the interstate being closed for reasons he doesnt give a shit about and hopping on through another exit? Ive gone around police barricades on I-79 twice to park and get baked with some friends and watch the giant earth movers go to town. I easily coulda smacked someone wearing all black at night anywhere along that road. Im not a terrorist or a murderer.

The guy was speeding toward a crowd of people. It looked like he was going 80. If he didn't wanna kill anyone, I don't think he'd be driving that fast. Sure, I could be wrong. But I got no problem labeling you a murderer if you drive around police barricades and then proceed to speed toward a crowd of people. He coulda slowed down when he got to the large group if he just wanted to get past

Id like to know what he said in the police interviews, with regards to motive for his actions.

Its a tragedy, and one person lost her life and another was severely injured by this, at the very least, reckless idiot.

That being said, the troopers plea at the end of his on-scene video should ring true; do not protest on freeways. No one can guarantee your safety, because youre talking about wide stretches of road that must be closed down and unpredictable behavior like this of humans behind the wheel of automobiles.

Keep the protests to city/town streets, where traffic can be diverted with relative ease.

This wasnt a lawful closure of the interstate. The protestors had closed it for a couple of weeks from what I read. It was also 1:30 am. So its hard to say if the driver intentionally meant to hit them or maybe thought it was late enough that they would be gone and drove recklessly. Maybe he was intoxicated. People are jumping to conclusions really quickly.

Ok, but he could have still been drunk or high. Im guessing he didnt want to deal with the alternative (i.e. non-protest) route, so he took his chances at high speed and lost control of the situation. Anyway, we are all just speculating.

Not sure why that article says that. Others Ive read just say they it was closed by protestors. On the video, you can see that there are civilian cars blocking the way.

I've seen a lot of tweets talking about how the people deserved to get hit and I fucking despise the USA.

I dont know how people are defending the driver at all. When you see cars blocking the highway and have to go onto the shoulder, you slow the fuck down well before that because you should obviously drive with caution. And theres no way you cant see that mass of people unless youre impaired in some fashion (sleep, alcohol, etc). Should have had enough time to either dodge the people or slow down enough to where impact doesnt kill someone.

Like, theres no defense for the guy at all.
