I have a problem with gnats in the summer so I tried moving a spider from my bathroom to the kitchen window but he decided to hide under the sill and catch no gnats and then fucked off somewhere else entirely. How do I convince one of these stupid bastards that living in gnat buffet land is better than dying along behind by bathroom door? I just want everyone to be happy.

Slide a piece of paper underneath it and then cap it with a cup. Move to where you want it to be and remove paper there.

Physically moving it isn't the problem. I got him there, and he left. I need him to stay there and get to work.

@dolomedes

If he doesnt respond. Id recommend trying a lizard.

Feeding him some gnats there might encourage him to stay there too.

I would love to unleash a family of anoles loose in my apartment but they're much harder to catch and probably wouldn't just chill out on the window sill.

Try putting holes in the lid of an old jar and fill it up with apple cider vinegar. Apparently gnats love that shit, and will land in it to drink it even though it kills them. Could even try putting a nightlight right behind it to increase it's attractive power if it's a clear jar.

If you want a spider that will stay in your windowsill, you might need to go outside to find one. Typical indoor spider varieties prefer darkness even though they'd catch way more prey if they built their webs over a light source. I don't think the typical indoor spider needs to eat very often. Go outside and find yourself a spider sitting in the middle of a beautiful web, that's the kind of spider you want to catch flies. With a little luck, it will decide that your window is the perfect frame to fill with a web

I think its a survival instinct due to arachnophobes. Cant blame them.

Offer it a juicy contract with cool perks, and it will feel more motivated to do its job!

It was obviously outside before it came into your house.
