I don't think developers have much control over that to begin with. There is certainly plenty of digital shovelware but, for a lot of small indies, digital only is the only way they're getting their product out at all. It warrants a deeper look if something is digital only but I wouldn't write off the quality of a game entirely for it.

it was annoying how long it took Hollow Knight to get one. Would have bought an immediate physical release while the game was being super hyped up but after the first planned physical release was completely cancelled I ended up grabbing it while it was super cheap in a digital flash sale. Then it had a physical release later anyway -_-
