They were in trouble before the pandemic. The market was oversaturated with a ton of mediocre breweries popping up all over the US.

disagree. I think its the opposite. Theyre all making shitty light beers that are easily accessible to people who dont like the taste of beer. Generic light lagers and fruity ass shit that just tries to mimic blue moon or other light beers like bud light.

all these new breweries make like 4 different styles. - American lager, ipa, Pilsner, or wheat beers.

The vast majority of European travelers I served either wanted an import or a strong American-made IPA.

I would probably want an American IPA if I was in America just to see if it's any better, because the crap we get here is tastes like dried marijuana steeped in cold water.

We're hitting record sales where I'm at. Helps that we have a huge outdoor space though. But even when we couldn't have on-site consumption, we got steady business thanks to our partnership with great food trucks.

It feels like a lot of the breweries in this area adapted well though.

Saison (French for season) are farmhouse ales. They are in the pale ale family (not to be confused with India Pale Ale) and tend to be more heavily carbonated, and stronger fruit notes. The ones I like tend to have notes of lemon, and err on the tart side of saison.

Damn you are not even American and you get this.
It's true. I just worked at a place that sold a ton of Craft beer, I think like 95% was IPA's.
That shit smells and tastes like cat piss to me.

The issue with the IPA trend is that it is a bit more accessible in terms of extreme flavor beers, compared to triples, quads, imperial stouts, Flemish sours, etc.

Granted, when I see people rant about IPAs they tend to focus entirely on the dank bombs which is more typical in West coast style. The new trend (at least on the East Coast) is New England hazy styles, which tend to be bombastically tropical and juicy as opposed to bong water.

actually historically saisons date back much further than IPAs.

so while I know what you mean when you say you want beer to taste like beer, technically saisons date back to the Middle Ages, so they have a much longer history of being associated with a beer taste

I like IPAs but there are a lot of really mediocre IPAs out there. They are just an easy beer for craft breweries to make because you can hide a lot of imperfections behind the IBUs. It's much harder to make something like a lager because if you mess up you'll definitely taste it.

The same thing applies to sours, which is why you have a lot of craft breweries coming out with sours that are just sour for the sake of sour.

Meant dollars for beer. But in CO at least there is a nice breckenridge brewery sampler 15 cans for $15. Assume it's in other places since breckenridge was bought out by one of the big ones.

Thats true. Although, I think a lot of people that dont like IPAs are possibly drinking old IPAs. Even like 2 months after theyre canned, the flavor profile changes a ton compared to a fresh can.

If you can get an IPA canned less than a month from when you drink it, youll notice a big difference compared to one thats 3 months old.

The issue is, with so many breweries out there now, some IPAs sit on the shelves for 6 months at a grocery store.

I agree with this. It's easier for smaller breweries to make a base beer that they add different things to in iterations, and this kinda ironically leads to a lack of variety because those things end up tasting so much alike that you can't differentiate one product from another.

Even some of my favorite breweries are guilty of this.
