Think people originally kept dogs to eat once the food ran out

Don't get one if you can't shell out $1,000 for an emergency, don't get one unless you like constant responsibility and patience. Also the example with a broken hip sounds like an extreme example. Yeah it could happen but it's very unlikely. I dunno depends on the kind of dog you're getting. A small lap dog just needs constant attention, whereas a big one you're going to be feeding more and walking more and training more.

Honestly, if you can't afford pet insurance, don't even bother. Too many sad deaths lie down that road.

If you can, ask about which breeds suit your lifestyle. It is absolutely fucked up to have a german shepherd as a housepet, or to give money to people who intentionally breed malignant deformities for aesthetic.

That. It's not just money, it's also time. And if you can't afford to spend a little extra of either then you shouldn't get a pet.

Averages out to 300$ a year, which is better than having to shell out 3,000 out of the blue. Make sure it covers everything, though; if you're responsible, and no unfortunate accidents happen, you'll probably use all that investment in the dog's later years. It's worth it to have an old boy still comfortable and able to walk.

To add to this, some breeds are more high maintenance than others. My friend had a bulldog and I learned that they are prone to have all sorts of problems. He had a lot of money and time to take proper care of it, but point is do your research.

For whatever breed you plan on getting, you might want to check up on common maladies. For example, German Shepards tend to get hip dysplasia so when they get older, that could be a concern. Bulldogs are a shining example of the evil that is inherent in mankind and have a whole bunch of health problems like barely being able to breathe. If they shed a lot, you're going to have to either spend a lot of time brushing them or taking them to a groomer. If you get something like Maltese, they tend to have a lot of tear stains that you will have to clean or once again take them to a groomer. If you travel for work a lot and nobody is at home, you're most likely going to have to lodge them which can get costly.

Yeah. Yeah. So I am. We never get younger but at least I know my memory is still sharp which is surprising considering the boozing and herb consuming I've done over the past decade+. You think CFB happens at all this year?

there's spikes of 100-400$ at times throughout her life.

she gets the best food i can afford (willing to eat) not the crappy food.

Highly doubt it. Season is way too close with no end in sight for corona

Now I'll have to stomach another year of LSU technically being the champs instead of Bama starting another 8 game win streak
