sometimes I try to picture what simpsons would be like if didn't stay paused forever in time, and actually aged the characters and stories in real time as the show went on. like how this one comic strip works, For Better or For Worse. they do it that way.

I watched the entire series recently.

He flossed a couple of times in recent seasons. I understand it makes sense since he's 10, but it's still weird seeing Bart Simpson flossing.

No, he's born in 2020. There will be an episode ten years from now about how young unmarried Homer and Marge sneak out their parents houses during the coronavirus lockdown to have sex which results in Bart's birth.

Homer and Marge went to high school in the 60s. Marge went to college in the 90s. Bart was born in 2010.

684 episodes so far, I wonder how many pacifiers Maggie has gone through, or whether it has ever been recalled for a safety issue.

I only had two kids, with my daughter being smart like Lisa, and son not as "street smart" as Bart, but thankfully wiser and brilliant in many other ways.

Enjoyed the first ten years, sadly have not kept up with it very much since.

How do they address this, canonically?

like when new episodes come out that talk about homer and marges past, were they born in the 50s or the 80s?

Bart is always ten in the current year of the episode first airing no matter how long the show has been running for.

Homer is 39 according to the show

So he would have been born in 1980 which is the same year Bart would have been born when the show's 1st season was going in.

My theory is that there's a Simpsons multiverse where every episode is a separate universe that has some shared history which is why there's some continuity while at the same time there's vast differences. That's why there's different time periods, different location of the simpson's home (down the street from moe's or right behind the nuclear power plant), and other inconsistencies

i know that, but Im talking about when they do flashbacks and stuff

like if they flashed back to when Bart was five in a recent episode would it take place in 2015, even though in the early seasons it would have taken place in the 80s?

is there no concern whatsoever for canon?

they keep retconning things like when the kids were born or what decade homer and marge were in high school/college

strangely though I don't think they ever retconned Grandpa Simpson fighting in WW2. it no longer makes sense that Homer has a WW2 vet for a father. but I've never seen the show explain this. then again, I also have only seen a handful of episodes from the past 10 years

Really? I thought he in his early 30's like 31-34. Is this a recent change, to make him more in line with today's adults who start families later in life or was he like that when the show debuted in 1989/90? Because having your first kid at 29 would be considered pretty late back then.

Can confirm he is 34 at least in season 1 and 2, having just recently watched

None at all. A flashback to Bart being born is ten years prior to whatever the current year is.

So it seems they are aging him to match the average adult of the time.

Peter Parker would now be born in the 90s or even 2000s depending on what his current age is.

His main career was a photographer for a 60s newspaper. Which is a dated career.
