My emergency fund is about 2 years if I'm cheap. If I sell my stocks, I can last over a decade.

Me and my girlfriend pay $2450/month on bills/food. I make about 1900/Month and she makes about 1600/Month. We have $6000 between us and we buy stuff that we want all the time.

People who can't save up money are ridiculous.

I lurk r/personalfinance and every other topic is stuff like I have 5k in savings what should i do. Top comment is always you should have (insert months of expenses) saved up. So that why I phrased it like that. It not how much you have saved in dollars but months of expenses if you were to lose job or something.

We just cut rent out of our usual bills which was about 2/3 of our expenses before. So maybe a year if we were smart with no income. The plan is to save a lot over the next few years and have a substantial down payment for a house.

Some people have kids. Some people have disabilities. Some people are caretakers. And a million other things that prevent people from saving easily.

Maybe 3 months right now. It would be more if I didn't have to go to the dentist next week.

If my wife and I said fuck it and wanted to, we could pretty easily both retire right now if we significantly dropped our expenditures and liquidated our non-home real estate assets.

So.... hundreds of months?

I would last a couple of weeks on my savings. If I didn't get pay this month I wouldn't afford paying my rent and other bills.

More than a year. Having decent savings gives you a different attitude to work. You can take it or leave it.

Saved up how? Like in a savings account? In investments?

I have a few months in cash. Probably... I don't know, 12 years in investments.

So far my only bills now are my car insurance(300$) and phone bill(105). I dump maybe 4-600$ a week into stocks/roth, and savings, along with 15% 401k contributions. What's left I use for food and other miscellaneous shit.

Off the top of my head I could probabaly Yeet off someplace with a crazy low cost of living and last maybe 4-5 months if I'm being ultra frugal, and rely solely on my savings.

100+ months
I've lived my life like a poor person in order to not have to feel the stress of constantly needing to be employed. I'll most likely retire in my 50s.

Three months of savings isn't some type of huge safety net.
So what I'm saying is that we buy stuff we want all the time (Electronics/Clothes/Home Items/Etc) and we're still saving that much money. We do about $1200/month in excess spending. We could be putting a lot more in the bank, but we just aren't right now. Having $6000 just sitting there in the bank is, for some reason, something most people in the US just aren't achieving right now. Most people are living paycheck to paycheck with sub $100 in their accounts and usually it's because of 20+ Takout Orders a month and $40 on alchohol every weekend.

I got pretty lucky. If i didnt get divorced id have zero, but i made quite a bit on the sale of my house, so i have quite a nice safety net. A little over a years pay right now, and no debt aside from rent.

A better question would be how long can you go financially if you were let go right now.

Find some friends between ages 21-35. Especially someone without children. Ask them to plan out an entire week, as in, 7-Days of meals for Breakfast/Dinner.

The average US Citizen will lose their fucking mind because most people don't know to take care of themselves, and instead depend on an outside force to feed them. (I.E. Restraunts)

More than a year's worth, but that's only because I'm living with my mom and don't own a car right now.

Those are things that will probably change before the year is up.
