Streamer Five0AnthO, a police officer who in his spare time role plays as a police officer in the the GTA world on Twtich had some very choice words for the BLM movement.

In typical cop fashion

He was disrespectful towards the BLM movement and what its fighting for. He called it a "major joke". Said he was most fearful of being killed by black people as he leaves for work. Used dismissive and tone deaf phrases like "All lives matter" in response to BLM. And he all but said racial discrimination or biases when it comes to policing was a myth

Why is his experience as a Black person less valid than someone who hates cops? I don't get it.

even if the perfect outcome of complete defunding/reform of police across the country occurs, people won't stop hating cops. the acab way to be is counterculture, and it's never going to go away. it's lose-lose for anyone in this career. they're expected to be responsible for improving trust and relations with people who want a reason to hate them.

Being a cop means you have higher standards to act towards and take criticism well to improve. If they can't handle that why tf did they become a cop?

Next step is to reduce crime through investing in community safety nets rather than the insane amounts of resources put into militarizing police departments and incarcerations. I believe the US spends $80 billion on jails and incarcerations alone.

Less crime occurs
Police aren't armed for war. They begin serving the people rather than corporate interests. Racial discrimination isn't tolerated. They are held accountable for their actions. etc.

they can eventually be trusted again. Until then, ACAB

Black police officers like him are most destructive I'm telling you. His behavior encourages the mistreatment of black people since other officers think it's okay if it's coming from a black person

From the 1880s to 1965 part of the role of police was to enforce explicitly racist laws. In the 80s, the CIA knowingly permitted groups to spread crack cocaine throughout black communities. In the 90s, police deliberately targeted minorities, especially African Americans, for even the smallest of infractions.
We are not so far away from explicit institutionalized racism that people are going to just forget about it. Trust is built up over time. When a generation of racists die and the children who remember getting beat from die from old age, then will relationships and trust begin to form. But we cannot get there if we cannot even agree that there is a problem, still.
