I meant more such polarization.

only 3% of people rated endgame as a 1/4 in terms of how satisfied they were with the ending of the entire marvel franchise. one of them was me, a person who actually uses the full rating scale very effectively and has a documented history of doing so. you can see my average score on MAL over the course of a decade+ is very close to 5.9, which is the expected mean on a 10 point scale.

I'm also the only person in the entire topic who said anything overly negative about endgame.

what you are seeing in this topic is not polarization at all.

you literally saw ONE person make a negative comment, and that person has a documented history of using the full rating scale very effectively over hundreds of ratings. even mathematically your argument makes no sense because the people who rated IW/Endgame on the negative side of the scale were 3x as likely to rate it a 2/4 instead of a 1/4.

I thought it was fine for what it was, a kinda bloated blockbuster, but seemed to end decently. Though theres still a few loose ends, mainly through the time travel scenarios (Loki escapes, the Gamora plotline come to mind) also captains feelings for Peggy came off a little forced.

I wasn't talking about the poll, mostly about the comments.

^ perfect example of why you never respond to a troll, ever, no matter how tempting.

there is literally text, written by me, 4 inches above the text that he quoted which addresses the exact thing that he is now bringing up.

there is either a hole in his brain or, more likely, he knows exactly what he is doing.

Two things.

  1. I don't consider myself an MCU superfan. Now, I DO see all the movies during the opening week, but I hardly ever rewatch them and I'm not involved in Marvel fan culture/spoiler culture, I don't have any nostalgia for the characters (was a DC reader growing up), etc.
  2. In my opinion the degree of difficulty for nailing the landing on 20ish (mostly) loosely connected movies is not even in the same ballpark as successfully wrapping up a 60+ hour television drama, or a 100+ hour narrative video game series.
That being said... Infinity War and Endgame completely blew me away.

Ng's Hot Take
It's hard to imagine how mindblown I would have been if I could have gone into IW with a clean slate. I wish I could have bonked myself on the head and not realized it was the first of a two parter, they'd already filmed a new Spiderman, sequels to Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy were already planned, and so forth. Since I couldn't do that, the deaths and surprises lost some impact for me, of course, but it was still such a cool experience. I'd never have believed that despite spending over 40 hours with all the other characters, IW could become The Thanos Show... and I'd be hanging on every word! "All that for a drop of blood" "Should have gone for the head" "Everything"- what an iconic performance, we're still going to be quoting him 50 years from now.

In a way Infinity had it easy; it's not THAT hard to blow everything up. Endgame had the much more difficult task of putting everything back together. When I realized that was going to be accomplished through some wacky time travel hijinks, I have to admit I rolled my eyes. Usually it's a lazy way out of problems that doesn't make a lick of sense and only raises more questions than it answers. And... okay so that was pretty much true here as well. But by God, was it fun to watch!

Even as a non-superfan it was crazy how much I loved watching the gang relive all their Greatest Hits through time manipulation. What's even more impressive though is how whenever things needed to get serious, they landed those moments almost flawlessly as well. I couldn't have pictured a better goodbye for Iron Man, or Cap, and I was surprisingly touched by little things like Thor getting to have some last words with his mother.

Plus the movies get 10 bonus points because when Cap does "that thing" in the final fight scene, I cheered louder than I ever have in a movie theater. It was super special for me because I SWORE I saw him move Mjolnir at that party years earlier, and Thor noticed and almost freaked out, but whenever I mentioned it people told me I was a foolish dummyhead. Take THAT, everyone!

Altogether this is the one of the easiest 4s I'll ever give out, although like I said up front, it was an easier 4 than some other series will have to earn.

I think the coolest thing about that is they said that in canon, Cap could pick it up all along and realized when he tried it at the party, but he pretended he couldn't to not ruffle feathers, though Thor noticed anyway.

Knowing that in hindsight and then going back to the scene, you can notice it starts to move at first but then Cap stops to apparently adjust his grip and doesn't move it after that, and it suddenly paints that scene in a different light.
