60+ days.

we've had to stay in our house for 60 days too. cases gone up in town as people wanted to interact.
they happened to be the first to encounter the illness plus many more.

at first it was fine. close up shops is okay. then they close the beach. that was too drastic but it was the only means to rid of the tourists.

Hospitalizations are also increasing, and that's a stat independent of the number of testing.

You realize I agree with you. I'm just saying, with all the protests, if swaths of them don't come down with corona, i'll feel i've been misled by the gov't and medical community.

Not all states. Nevada started partially reopening a month ago and the percentage of positive tests and number of deaths have both gone down.

That means their positive test percentage relative to total tests should either be holding steady or decreasing.

You're still a week or two away from finding out the truth. But I thought it doesn't spread as well in outdoor environments?

True, but there may be other factors involved there. The fact that hospitalizations have increased in states that have aggressively reopened like Florida and Texas independent of everything else is likely an indicator of a relaxed attitude with social distancing.

My county should be 100% evidence for the lockdowns. We held steady at 100 cases during the entire lockdown which was quite low considering our population size. We opened on May 1st.

The county has now exploded to 1,500 cases. And for the cherry on top, testing has actually decreased. Yes, amazingly they were doing all these free testing events during the lockdown, now for some reason they stopped doing them when we actually need them.

True too. People here have for the most part been wearing masks, a lot of small businesses require wearing one and the businesses here have been either encouraging or downright enforcing social distancing.

You can still walk, jog, run, hike, go to a park and other outdoors stuff and hangout with friends even. If you're in the us at least.

The restrictions aren't so bad you can't leave. I actually walked to and from the store a few days ago, it was extremely refreshing

I still get how you feel though

Even if they don't explode, it doesn't mean the lockdown was pointless it means they got it under control enough that people can congregate out in wide open public areas and get lucky. These protests are happening in major cities, and major cities also happen to be where the most effort to fight the virus happened, they also peaked earlier, so even places like NYC which were heavily hit have really low daily numbers, which means less people have the virus which means less people to spread it. The current hot spots are the more rural areas, the urban areas peaked and have gone down to controllable levels.

It also isn't going down. Stagnation isn't much better, the idea is to go down the slop not keep it at a stead rate. Even NYC has gone down the slope

this could've happened to the oregon coast about 2-3 weeks ago. they wanted to protest despite the low virus cases in this county they still showed up. thankfully no one got sick.

police made a post on facebook for local citizens not to go near the areas of protest between certain hours (have plenty of elderly who live in this town) very high risk.

I spend 60 days locked down and I dont want a recurrence of the virus. If it goes away, then that means that social distancing works.

Im not going into this cold and flu season unprepared, though. Im getting hand soap whenever I see it (only a few at a time to leave most of it for other people), but I fully plan on having about fifty things of rubbing alcohol and hand sanitizer. Im not getting caught short again. I am also going to keep my masks.

The hell are you talking about? The spread started from only a few people, and most people still have not caught the virus yet. This is going to destroy us.

Things are already spiking from early reopenings in a lot of states. Not all, but quite a few. With that kind of trend, you can almost put money on things spiking as well from protests.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/08/health/us-coronavirus-monday/index.html

You're SUPPOSED to see an increase in cases because people are SUPPOSED to be getting tested. What you're not supposed to see is more hospitalizations and more deaths.

The article addresses higher RATES. Not just cases. More testing should not influence the rate of positive results

Virus spread is exponential, so the increase of rates is inevitable, even with a low exponent. The important thing is that people are getting tested early enough to get early treatment and be able to recover.

That's why we had lockdowns and social distancing, to curb the increase of rates. The fact that they shot right back up in a lot of places after reopening is a sign places might have been premature in lifting restrictions.

Also again, simply changing the variable of number of tests should have no effect on the positive rate.

Think with numbers. Say you had 1000 tests, 10 positive. If you upped the testing to 10000 you should have around 100 positive. Having more is a bad sign and nothing to do with the availability of tests themselves.

I know there's a difference between rate and scale. Yes, if you have a complete lockdown with everybody staying home and never leaving their houses, of course that is going to have a lower rate than people going outside. But that scenario is not realistic or sustainable, because people have to get food, get medicine, get laundry, make money, etc.. The question we should be asking is if an economy plus precautions (masks, social distancing, sanitizing, the whole shebang) has a lower rate than the pre-lockdown economy. This has already been shown to be yes, because many of the states that reopened were still seeing a decline in deaths and had an R-naught of less than 1 until a couple of weeks ago.
